Typewriter - tell me about it
Every time I think I can sit down and write about My Life These Days, something requiring large amounts of Processing falls into my lap. And so it is today. Also, I am sick and otherwise in need of distraction.

So instead, here is an Anonymous Confession Post!

The only rule of this post is Wheaton's Law: Don't be a dick. Anything mean-spirited will be deleted.

So tell me something. Tell us something. Tell each other something.

48 hours.

Go.

I want to get my tubes tied but my doctors haven't been receptive. I'm 31. I've been asking for this since I was 26. I have never wanted children of my own, but people keep telling me I will, despite the fact that I don't think I would make a good parent and don't have the financial resources or life stability to support a child even should I suddenly decide to want one. I'm really angry about this and I don't see what I can do about it other than grow old enough that the medical establishment finally decides I'm telling the truth, by which time I will start hitting menopause if my female relatives are any guide.

I'm not suggesting you do this, but I lied to the doctor and told them that there was a significant family history of Huntington's Disease and hemophilia in the family. I didn't want children and didn't want the risk of passing it on. I got my tubes tied 30 days later at 25 y/o.

I'm 31 as well and also want to get sterilized. I hate, hate, hate the ageist belief that we'll want children when our "biological clock" supposedly starts ticking.

Personally, I'm going to look into options like getting an IUD or having the Essure procedure done - it's non-surgical sterilization and easier (at least around here) to get a doctor to do it on younger patients.

If you are within driving range of Dover, NH, I have a gyn who believes her patients. She did my hysterectomy when I was 33 and probably saved my life in the process. I fired countless doctors before I found her, but there ARE some out there who will listen and not insist on preserving reproductive ability above all else.

As a parent who struggles with raising a much wanted child, I applaud you for recognizing that you don't want to do it. It is a brutally difficult job sometimes, and while I love my son dearly and do not regret my choices at all, it is not something anyone should do unless they are 150% certain they want to do it. I would not do it again even if I could. I want more children, but they will be adopted or fostered, and not until we have the physical, financial, and emotional resources to take on that responsibility.

Best of luck finding a good doctor. If you want the name of mine, just let me know. She is one of the kindest people I have ever met.

Ugh, I'm sorry. I hate everything about how the medical establishment handles this shit too. It is your body, and if you don't want kids, you should be able to ensure that you don't have kids!

Sterling's idea below seems interesting. The below anon's idea of Essure is worth looking into. You should be able to get an IUD - I have a Mirena IUD, which lasts 5 years and is 99.7% effective. Which is not sterilization, no, but if you absolutely can't get sterilized, it's the next best thing...
