It is Friday and I am getting. Shit. Done.

Did the writing that needed doing on the current story - this one doesn't want to pour out all at once, it lets itself out a little bit at a time.

Wrote an appreciation of Heather Dale for the Boskone program. (I was asked to do one for Tricky Pixie last year. I imagine the dude who processes these wondering just who the hell I am and why I'm friends with all of their musical guests.)

Did a bunch of small things - in particular, the small things that keep big things from getting done, the "I can't do X until I know/do Y" things. I did Y.

I have one more nonfiction thing I have to do - not due today, but I'm on a roll so let's go - and one flash fiction thing I'd like to do. I'm six rows from the end of Judah's shawl - those rows are very long, so I may or may not be able to finish today, but I'll be able to finish by Saturday evening. Then I get to move on to Elayna's sweater, already in progress.

My silence this week is a deceptive sort of silence. Sometimes I'm quiet because things are awful and I can't bring myself to speak. Sometimes I'm quiet because I have all the plates spinning perfectly. Today's the latter.

So hi.

Friday Memeage:

Wearing: Jeans, black sweater with lots of big silver dots, outer space knee-high socks, outrageous necklace from Little Black Bag. (I am trying to be fabulous every day. Makes me feel more professional than writing in my pajamas.)
Reading: Nexus by Ramez Naam.
Writing: about Final Girls.
Knitting: Judah's shawl, Elayna's sweater.
Planning: Well, see above. Plus all of Elayna's financial aid paperwork tonight and tomorrow. Sunday Judah and I are going to a Dessa concert! (Have you heard her stuff? YOU GUYS.)

11th-Jan-2013 06:53 pm (UTC) - Meme!
Wearing: Jeans, black t-shirt, ankle boots.
Reading: So Fey: Queer Fairy Fiction (Steve Berman, ed.)
Writing: invocations for Imbolc ritual
Knitting: Cambridge Tweed prayer scarf, STILL
Planning: Rituals, rituals, more rituals! Also, chores.

What sort of fairy tales does the collection re-tell/tell? &is this fiction or more essay-like (non-fiction)? I'm a huge fan of fairy tales in any capacity and am always looking for new retellings.

It's mostly using the existing characters and larger thematic elements to tell romantic, Tam-Lin-esque pieces, or slipstream bits about the nature of . It's a bit uneven, but I'm enjoying it thus far!
11th-Jan-2013 07:39 pm (UTC) -
Wearing: Pink leopard print flannel pajamas
Reading: Tangle of Need by Nalini Singh, which is just dire and bad writing all around, but I'm addicted to this series
Writing: A design of experiment proposal for work
Knitting: Lazy Kate shawl with my handspun laceweight from a Loop! bump
Planning: If this flu clears up, making up some business cards on the letterpress, and maybe a date tomorrow night if I'm well enough.
11th-Jan-2013 11:01 pm (UTC)
Wearing: Jeans and a red sweater
Reading: WAY TOO MANY THINGS. I think on my e-reader I'm in the middle of Electric Velocipede 25, and one of the books by MCA Hogarth, and not on the e-reader I have Ben Bova's Venus, and school books (classes start Wednesday! AAAAA!) and some other things I can't remember. (I'm so not a monogamous reader.)
Writing: This one is not applicable, most of the time.
Knitting: Socks! Two pairs. Supposedly a hat for my brother, but I'm more interested in the socks.
Planning: My free time until school: seeing everyone I can fit in, mostly, because once school starts I never get to see anyone.

Glad to hear you are doing better and productive is happening!

The things:

Wearing: black w/grey-brown pattern dress, grey w/black and grey strip sweater, black shoes, heather brown socks. Hair in a side braid, grey earrings, extra ring of silver with some random pretty stone! Woo!
Reading: The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde
Writing: I have the very beginning of a vignette that I felt impelled to write down so it would leave my brain alone.
Knitting: my latest knitting attempt broke the knitting needle and circular thing to which it was attached (part of a kit) so I put the knitting away for a little while.
Planning: Tonight, make food list/menu to become a shopping list. Regular shopping must happen, which means somewhat regularlized meal plan. Hebrew school this Sunday, for which I need to plan both this week and next week when I'll be away.
