First off, yay, "I Am Thinking of You in the Spaces Between" is a Million Writers Award Notable Story. :)

I need to write more short fiction. And poetry. The Accursed Novel has taken over.

Speaking of The Accursed Novel, I did get back on it on Friday. Brutal chapter argh. Will do more today.

Weekend was good - I actually got some socialization in, both one-on-one with thewronghands and at a party! Also we painted my office yesterday. Silvery grey. Also I did the first coat in the kitchen this morning (first rollered coat; Judah's in charge of the cutting in), and will do the second in a bit.

Other people whose "grippers don't work", as lawbabeak puts it - any tips for stuff like house-painting? I've been doing hand exercises whenever I have to reload the roller with paint, and sometimes I just have to guide the roller as flat-handedly as possible. I welcome suggestions. "Just let the mens do it" is not a viable solution; Judah's essentially working two jobs and can't get this done any faster than he already is, and it is so far beyond Adam's skillset.

We are leaving for Wiscon (Chicago first) on Wednesday. I have a lot of meep about this! I don't feel as prepared as I'd like to in general, and those extra days in Chicago on either side are nervous-making - I know how to feed myself safely in Madison. I don't in Chicago. Figuring this stuff out on the fly can be stressy and distressing. I'm stocking up on Larabars, which I find revolting, but they'll provide me with calories while I search for actual and non-odious food.

And there are just so many other things that need to get done before I'm gone for a week. Meep.

I'm breathing.

So today, writing, second coat of paint (and fervent wishing that I had the fine motor skills required to cut in so that room could be *done*), and making the grand list of everything that must get done.

Hi. How's your Monday?

I'm so looking forward to reading with you, Rose, and Patty! :)

is chiropractic a valid treatment choice for you? Because chiro can reset my grip strength, but it's a temporary thing for me.

I relate both to the hand grip issues [yay, fetal alcohol syndrome!] and the stress of not knowing when, where, and what to eat when on the road. To the point that I am already trying to foresee your food needs for your event here in August.

I'm just built that way.

===============

As far as my Monday goes, it's not a bad Monday yet, but I am wearing my Scorpio colours and need their strength. The month of May seems to be an annual downturn for bookstore sales before the madness that is School Summer Reading descends upon us. I hear rumours that a local group has nominated us for a cash mob, and I would be so relieved if it came to pass. Just being break-even is so stressy.

What about, send a call-out on your social networks and see if there's any willing and able-to volunteers?

Congrats on the Notable Story thing! I saw that go by on Facebook, but hadn't had a chance to read the story yet. Nice work! (Kind of Watchmen meets The Time Traveler's Wife.)

I meep with you, and then breathe.

Gluten free on the fly is stressful as heck. Have you seen this blog: http://www.glutenfreebetsy.com/p/gf-restaurants.html She lives in Chicago.

ps. Wiscon!

eta

I wanted to ask you what are things you want to talk about at Wiscon (since you had mentioned a while ago the things you do not want to be asked about).

Dude, that link will be invaluable. Thank you!

I want to talk about ALL THE THINGS. Drag Race, ponies, awesome new and upcoming books, et cetera. But yeah, I need to edit in "remember, I'm on leave and need to not spend the con talking about rape"!

ALL THE DRAG RACE TALK YES MA'AM

*cough*

Padding the roller handle might help. You could tape a washcloth or dishrag or paper towels around it to give you something softer to grip. Don't know if your hand size will allow for that - mine are pretty big, so I can get away with all sorts of mods.

But, yes, rest and exercises are good. As is being nice to your hands during the parts of the day that you're not painting.

monday is pretty good, getting stuff accomplished for summer classes i'm going to be taking. Do you need me to recommend some restaurants? There's this article that may or may not be relevant to your interests:

if not, then please ignore.

I read the "Between" story for the first time today.

It hit me so hard I almost fell, and then I cried for a long time.

I remembered a short story I'd started writing last year about how certain people could cross dimensions and universes, and your story inspired me to start it up again. So, thank you.

I really, really cannot describe how incredibly indescribably amazing that story is. I cannot explain how it makes me feel without losing words.

There are tons of options; if you tell me what neighborhood you'll be in, I can tell you if I've eaten anywhere there and recommend or anti-recommend. [grin] Enjoy your trip; it was great to see you!

You sound busy. May your meals out not be glutenous.

I got me grades back. I'm graduating summa.
