To-do List
This is a signal-boost for maxymyllyn, who is in law school! Everything below this sentence was written by him.

I am writing an article called polyamory and the law today. Basically, I am writing about how polyamory (previously called by its various and sometimes insulting nicknames) as a growing lifestyle, can function within the current structure of laws today federally, on a state level and locally. It's designed to be a primer for attorneys who have polyamorous clients and where they should go and what resources they should utilize to assist them with their day-to-day legal activities. And I need your help.

I need to get stories, legal issues, and information from people. Specifically, I'm writing about situations in which you felt that the law was not accommodating, and how you were able to work around it or within it. The more specific you are, the better.

Please email your stories to me at polylawarticle@gmail.com. Also, include contact information (phone, chat, etc.) in case I have questions. All information will be kept confidential and all situations (if described in the article) will have the names and places changes and/or redacted.

Areas I'm looking for:

Real estate ownership
Condo ownership
Rental agreements
Commercial ownership (business and land)
Bank accounts, Investments, Wills
Government benefits (including food stamps, social security, welfare recipients, disability recipients, etc.)

Medical Care proxy
Patient visitation

Medical, Life, etc

Asset distribution (undoing all or some of the above)

Also, information that your attorney's advised you of that you feel comfortable sharing would be most helpful. Please share this with anyone you think can help.

Remember to be as specific as possible about the legal proceedings, instruments used, advice and rulings you received. Email me at polylawarticle@gmail.com

Thanks again,

Sadly, I don't really have much info... trying to navigate that particular sea myself. About all that I've got so far is that while the state and school system will hold my husband's income against my girlfriend and her daughter for benefits (like free/reduced lunch, which in turn determines SO MANY PROGRAMS OMG SO NOT EVEN JUST GAH) but of course medical insurance through his employer would not cover either of them.

So would I.
As a Canadian, I doubt I would be of much help on input.
