To-do List
* Happy birthday to caudelac, and hello to new reader voiceofisaac!

* kittycyborg auctions continue! Kitten-soft mittens, custom knitting, pewter amulets, custom Sihaya Designs fairy wing jewelry, a ring, a Sherlock Holmes graphic novel! Go bid!

* omnia_mutantur says: "I'm trying to signal-boost my availability as someone who has gotten a BRCA+ diagnosis, had the prophylactic surgeries, and is willing to talk about it to just about anyone at any stage in the process. (Long story short: BRCA is a genetic mutation which puts one at a high risk of breast and ovarian cancer). I'm not looking for money or sympathy, I'm just trying to find a way to put myself forward." If you need information, please contact her here!

* If you have any ideas for literature panels for Arisia 2012, please tell me! We're starting the process of putting panel ideas in the system. As always, there are some ideas from the brainstorming list and some that I've picked up during the year, but I always like to have the broadest possible scope and not just have a track of Stuff shadesong Reads.

* Hey New Yorkers! If you're interested in dinner with me and sindrian on Friday 9/16, sound off! Also let me know if you're going to Maker Faire! Recommendations for awesome GF places also extremely welcome.

* Speaking of sindrian, we're at the halfway point of his trip to CA. At least I'm busier this week than last week, so the time shouldn't crawl quite as much!

* My week:
Wednesday: Torbutt's X-rays, chores/errands with Adam, dinner with mangosteen
Thursday: writing, recording "The Changeling's Lament" at slipjig's, As You Like It with Adam and Elayna.
Friday: writing, end-of-week review with Elayna, and emilytheslayer is teaching me to use her beadspinner so I can prestring beads for this shawl for stripedsocks (kittycyborg auction winner!) and this one for me!

I'm trying to decide whether I'm going to the End of Summer party. The six months sindrian was in Cincinnati, I had little pangs of "he should be here" at every big community gathering, and I wonder if EoS would be a lot of that + hours of being On. I suspect I'll make a decision day-of based on how up I'm feeling for social interaction. Either way, Elayna's going.

What are y'all up to?

I so read that as "breadspinner" and then couldn't figure out what kind of shawl you intended to make.

I'm kind of in love with Shipwreck these days myself! Beading has put me off of it for the nonce since omitting the beads does not even compute. I had no idea there was such a thing as a beadspinner!

I just ordered yarn for Rock Island in a bright red. I am in love with JF's Wool Leaves blanket so my next project had to be another of his.

I keep drooling over Rock Island, but I'm intimidated by the "pick up a whole lot of stitches" part!

The only thing I've done by JF so far is the Hemlock Ring blanket, which I loved; I have the pattern and yarn for a Girasole blanket, too, and I want to make sindrian a Cobblestone sweater.

I have pretty much been craving a Shipwreck since I first saw it. But - 5,000 beads! Unthinkable without a beadspinner.

I had a bit of a learning curve with Wool Leaves but the pattern was so well-written that I figured as long as I am paying attention to the directions, I can make Rock Island happen. I'm a bit nervous about the whole separate edging thing but it's just really going to be fun for me to actually make something for myself. So if it takes me a few months to get the pattern straight in my head, there's no rush. :)

Between the 5000 beads and 1300 yards of yarn, yeah, Shipwreck is intimidating. I've also never done anything circular before. I may teach myself socks before I get into that one! ;)

I do think Girasole is beautiful but between the two, I'd rather have/make Shipwreck.

Hemlock Ring is knitted in the round, so I know that I can knit enormous things in the round! :)

Girasole's on hold now that I'm making the Beekeeper's Quilt, because of the two blankets, I'm more interested in the Beekeeper's Quilt. And sindrian is knitting hexipuffs for it too. :)

I think I'll be using some of the yarn I bought for Girasole for a Pole, which would be my first non-accessory actual garment. It's KnitPicks Gloss worsted in Wine - very shimmery deep red. I've been poking at cardigans a lot lately. Intimidating, but I want!

I hear you on making things for yourself. I have a few things in the queue before the next thing I get to make for me.

Pole is going to be beautiful in that color. :)Garments are their own special kind of intimidation, for sure. I have not gotten that brave yet, though I am secretly stashing yarn for a sleeveless shirt.

The nice thing about knitting for others though is that it lets you expand your skill set. Lace was a foreign concept to me just two baby blankets ago. Now I aim to make myself a pretty shawl because I can and it's pretty, not because I actually ever wear shawls.

I never wore shawls before, but I do now! :)

I plan on going on a fingerless mitt/armwarmer binge soon as I can, with autumn coming soon.

Thank you for that. A friend of mine laughed when I explained that I didn't wear shawls but maybe I would if I made one. Now I can say that that plan has actually worked for someone else! :)

Ah, yeah, fingerless gloves, that's really what I need to learn, more than socks. I have lots of socks that work just fine. Thank you for the timely reminder. :)

This New Yorker is going to Maker Faire (though I'm not sure exactly when) and would love to meet at soem point or another!

E-mailed you my number! :)

Please come to the EoS party! I will be there and would love to see you!

That is an incentive!
9th-Sep-2011 01:55 pm (UTC)
Would mentioning my pink bikini be more incentive?
9th-Sep-2011 01:56 pm (UTC)
It is, but the constant knife-twist of "Judah should be here" is a big disincentive....
