State of the 'Song
Slow start today, as expected; fever's down a titch, but I've got a little chest congestion now. Will keep a close eye on that and call doctor as necessary. Had full-body ache when I woke up, but that's mostly faded, thank goodness.

About me and my activism
You may have noticed that I've been posting less about rape culture recently; this is a conscious decision to rest and refocus. I love that you guys send me links to all of this stuff, and I love providing a venue for discussion, but. Right now I'm working on figuring out life from now on. I have big stuff in the works that I'm not at liberty to talk about yet; my life is changing in positive but large ways! And I feel like I need a break from constant engagement on that issue. This is not a distancing, it's just a brief vacation. So if you send me stuff or ask me to post my thoughts on various rape cases and sexual violence stuff, I may gently reply with "I can't really engage with that right now."

This is by no means permanent, and in fact, me even posting this means I'll probably be back to it within a fortnight. :) I'm still volunteering with BARCC, and I will be working on my book about dismantling rape culture! This is an issue that's obviously always going to be a huge part of my life, but I need to stake out some time where it's not a 24/7 thing. And you guys are awesome, so I know you'll respect that.

Sindrian's Machine!
More new incentives! Check out the launcher!

The last $5K of his matching funds is about to hit, so in actuality, he only needs to raise $2,516. Y'all, we can do this. We can do this today.

Link Soup
* New issue of Goblin Fruit, yay!
* Reinterpreting Disney Princess Costumes Through a Historical Lens. I am kinda craving Aurora's dress.
* In Praise of Joanne Rowling's Hermione Granger Series. Oh snap.
* Magnified beach sand. Utterly gorgeous.

Daily Science
Hubble discovers another moon around Pluto.

Fortunately, I have a lot of sedentary tasks to do, because I very much need to be sedentary today; I am highly aware that my body is teetering on the line between "rest and you'll be fine" and "do too much and you'll be down for a week or two". So today will be dedicated to Stuff What I Can Do on the Computer, knitting, and other pursuits that don't involve lots of physical activity.

I'm planning on the Rebecca Loebe concert tonight, so I really hope I'm feeling up to it. I'll have a ride, which makes that likelier. *crosses fingers*

Thanks for the heads-up on the activism-vacation. Makes perfect sense, and if I come across anything that screams to me, "zOMG SONG WILL WANT TO SEE THIS!! ELEVENTI!1!1!" I'll throw it in a file for you for future viewing.

BTW part 1: LOVE the Hermione Granger bit. Double-snap!

BTW part 2: am SO looking forward to getting my own clue-by-four from sindrian! I'll be the only girl on my block with one :-)

My older daughter showed me those Disney princesses in historical costume--fascinating. I liked Aurora's dress too!

Thank you for the **lovely** beach sand link.

--And, just coming to know you now, I don't yet know your whole history as someone who comments on issues relating to rape, but speaking just generally, it seems quite natural to me that over time, you might need to pull back from **any** theme or topic, even (or maybe especially) one that you have great personal involvement in.

The very short version: I'm a longtime survivor speaker and community education volunteer for the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, and I worked there for about a year and a half as well - just left the job on July 8. It's great important work, but I was doing too much of it, and was perpetually drained! I'm still volunteering, but I needed it to be less 24/7; I needed there to be parts of my life that weren't All About That. So far this is a good thing. :)

I'm glad you've been able to pull back a bit!

I fully understand about the need to seek balance between things. It is to easy to allow oneself to be consumed.

Thank you for the link to the historical Disney Princesses. I want Aurora's dress too, and the figure to wear it....
