Odin's Day

7 days!

Happy birthday to tamidon!

State of the 'Song
Got good sleep last night, which helped, but I'm still far from 100%. Did get the window AC unit in, with help from feste_sylvain - just in time for it to hit 90 today. (Dear native Bostonians: I though we were supposed to have spring here?)

New Flogging Molly last week, new Frank Turner this week, and I have a bunch of music from pattytempleton. Aw yeah. *bounce*

MY DINING ROOM TABLE IS CLEAN. *ahem* Sorry. I'm having a Moment.

Hopefully I'll have energy this afternoon to keep on the cleaning. Also I've picked back up on the Hemlock Ring blanket, which has been sitting on my coffee table taking up space and being pointedly half-done for months. On round 44 of the 55 rounds of feather & fan. Note: at this point, each round is over 400 stitches. I'm considering expanding it to the 70 rounds of the expanded chart; I suspect that'll depend on me keeping this momentum. Also on how much yarn I'll need - I may already need to order an extra skein. I'm knitting this sucker in chunky/bulky. The goal is full-size blanket for a twin bed. Elayna, the intended recipient, is watching with keen interest.

But yeah, at this point, working on the blanket is a decluttering measure! Even on the circular needles, it takes up most of the coffee table itself.

May find out about some stuff today, but in all likelihood, everything will be settled early next week. YES PLZ. Stuff That Might Happen is not actually what's got me in a stressball, it's just the not knowing.

This Green Lantern Corps/Glee poster is adorable.

Daily Science
The world's oceans could be littered with thousands of undiscovered 'lost cities' housing communities of creatures that thrive in some of the Earth's most extreme conditions, a new discovery suggests.

As above. My workday is mostly meetings today. My afternoon/evening is all house stuff if the AC is working sufficiently. Momentum, y'all. Momentum.

I know my LJ is boring right now. It'll pick up soon, I promise.

I sympathize with you on the not knowing. Most of the time when people say "I need to talk to you" I'm all like "I don't care what it is, just tell me so I don't barf." I used to get that way with performance reviews at work, but fortunately at this point my boss and I get along really well and I'm positive that if there was A Problem, she would tell me and not wait for the review.

I'm having the same sort of tense hand-wringing about my upcoming review (relatively new job, so my manager and I don't know each other very well, and I don't know what to expect in terms of comments). My 6-month review was kind of sprung on me and that went badly; I'm afraid she'll spring this one on me too, though I know it has to happen sometime this month. *handwring*

Regarding the science news: So now Peter Watts has to write another Starfish novel.
8th-Jun-2011 08:23 pm (UTC) - An ableism rant
I need to rant briefly in a space where people will get it.

First, a positive: I just argued an appeal in front of three FEMALE judges on the (federal) Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. The only court above these women is the Supreme Court of the United States.

And now, the rant. Part of my issue was whether the trial judge remembered my client from a previous encounter. Right at the end of argument, one judge in a very maternalistic, talking-down way, made some comment about how when people get to her and the trial judge's age, their memory is not as good as it once was and I should keep that in mind and what would I expect them to do?

What I wanted to say was: "Bitch, please. I walked in here with a vocabulary list because my fucking aphasia kicks in at the most inopportune moments. My client's name is written in three different places in my materials, because yesterday I forgot my other client's name mid-argument. I work harder. I make notes. Because my brain doesn't fucking work because it has fucking holes in it. When I get to be your age, I just hope I can still walk and not drool."

What I said was: "Well, with my memory problems, I need to be sure to make lists and notes and review more often."

I'm pissed off both because of her presumption, and because no one in my professional realm knows of my diagnosis (it would be a career-limiting move to tell). So I'm super-duper invisible.
