I managed to avoid Adam's cold (also shared by taura_g and fiddle_dragon, I believe), for almost a week, I think.

I awoke this morning to find that my chest had been COLONIZED.

Fucking alien chestbursters.

I have stocked up on slippery elm lozenges and teas (just try finding gluten-free cough drops, I dare you, you will WEEP, I don't know what celiacs did before Google) and soups, and I am managing to not cough too very much just by focusing at least 70% of my attention on my breathing, which is obviously not a long-term solution.

Sometimes I get colds without them becoming bronchitis or pneumonia. Sometimes. But this is already in my chest and so I am confining myself to the couch or bed.

They died :)
Seriously, get well soon.

For serious, right? Constant suffering at the very least. *sigh*

Thanks. I'm in aggressively-taking-care-of-myself mode; I have too much to do to be taken out by this thing long-term. Hot baths, heated blanket, so much tea.

Maybe it's arsenic-based bacteria!

...Seriously, sympathies. I'm queasy this morning, myself, but not to the extent you're dealing with, so: sympathies, and healing.

I <3 slippery elm for sore throats!

Goldenseal is an amazing expectorant. If you can find gluten-free capsules, or tea, try it. I should help with the chest congestion.

Feel better!

Augh! Teh Plague caught up with me yesterday (sick housemate, go figure). Although instead of my chest, they've colonized my face.

Good luck with the lungs. *gentle hugs*

Colonized your face?

Doc said that there is definitely something going around like what I've described. She's been seeing a lot of it.

Also, 'Song? If this is something that regularly happens, maybe talk with your doctor about forming a plan about what to do when colds start (like what my doctor and I are finalizing over the next couple of weeks, because I am *not* going through this again - this is the second or third time I've gone through the cough of doom after the initial virus has gone away - we're now proactively planning for the next time).

I'm sorry, Hon.

When I was working at Pioneer Village, I used to chew on Horehound for congestion. Might check into it at Russo's or Whole Foods.

Grr, argh. Feel better. (And if you CAN still make it tomorrow, let me know what delectables I can pick up for you at the health food place. Right now, I'm guessing soup is a possibility?)

The way things stand right now, I'm thinking any exercise is a really bad idea. Plus I'd likely just be sitting in the van and whimpering. But Adam and Judah will be there!

Thank you, and you take care of you!

Thanks to the men-folk, too. (I promise I'll feed them well, and the crowd will be quite entertaining...I'll do a girly time later!)

Oh, ouch. :/ I hope you manage to fend it off!

That sounds very similar to the chest cold I had a month or so ago, which I had also described as aliens in my chest. The germies bypassed my head and went straight for the bronchi. It sucked. *sympathy*

Oh, ICK. I had NO IDEA that cough drops were a source of gluten; I've often found that a simple hard candy, like a Brach's Sour Ball, does at least as much good as a specific cough drop. are THOSE safe?
4th-Dec-2010 05:43 pm (UTC)
Brach's will neither confirm nor deny the presence of gluten. So is considered unsafe. Which sucks; I miss candy corn! Individual hard candies may or may not be safe. There are gf candy lists.

MAN, that sucks! With what I know of candy-making techniques, any gluten in a sour ball would be incidental cross-contamination, but that'll hurt you just as much as a gluten-containing recipe, so, bummer. :( Hope your chest-burster is vanquished soon!
