Thor's Day
18th-Nov-2010 07:32 am
Happy birthday to dandelion_diva and m_stiefvater!

Hello to new reader pairodox!

State of the 'Song
Yesterday the six-day headache roared into a full-blown migraine. *wince* I seem to be okay today, but I've thought that before and had the headache roar back. Let's hope.

Menu includes the turkey, duck, pork orgy, roasted sweet potatoes, rosemary/garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus, spiced carrots, arepas, brussel sprouts, green beans with shallots, cornbread stuffing, rosemary/thyme rolls, and I'm not even getting into dessert.

If you have not yet RSVPed, please do. If you are on the maybe list, please let me know; I've been eyeing it trying to determine how probable it is that you'll be there so I can do my grocery shopping!

Link Soup
* TSA link roundup.
* Review of Steam-Powered, which you can pre-order now! And get shinies! Apparently including something based on my story!
* Trailers! Green Lantern and Red Riding Hood.
* Chimera Fancies is having a sale! I'm a bit in love with "for bones of great mysteries linger in fairy tales", "Magpie called small pieces of magic down from the sky", "promise yourself the fire", and "and princesses in my kingdom go forward and see the world".

Daily Science
It's official: in a press release today, JAXA announced that some 1,500 dust grains scraped from the interior of Hayabusa's clean-looking sample return capsule are not of terrestrial origin so must be from Itokawa.

Work, writing (now that I know where "Mi Corazon Azul" starts!), and house stuff. Rather a lot of deep cleaning needs to happen. Also I should make my shopping lists for holiday gifts and Thanksgiving groceris, and act upon the former.

Goosebumps of awfulness? I thought both looked DEEPLY terrible.

Actually, as someone who's been reading GL since he was 8, I thought the trailer was mixed (especially the part where Hal talks about how scared he is, which is a little like Batman talking about how perky he's feeling, or Ambush Bug talking about how depressed he is). The parts that gave me hope were the non-dialog scenes with Hammond (who is one of my favorite villains) and Kilowog (who is, to date, the only character whose retconned resurrection did no bother me).

Yaaay pork orgy.

FYI, I don't think that I can bring anything cookable after all. The only stove I'm going to have access to, it turns out, is in NJ, and also it sucks.

Let me know if there's something else I can bring/do to help, though.

Red wine is the best thing to bring! :)

That I can do! :)

Hi there! I've been away from LJ for the past week, and it looks like I missed quite an eventful week in your life. I'm glad to hear that things seem to be going well for you (and I'm glad you found the school nurse info I found helpful). Thanksgiving at your house sounds like a wonderful event - enjoy!
19th-Nov-2010 02:52 am (UTC) - Maybe I'm doing 'I read the whole thing' wrong
But first, making sure you see this science about how an extrasolar planet may in fact be from another galaxy that the Milky Way once smashed through.

Has this happened to you? A couple of times I've used your phrase "I read the whole thing" and had the recipient think I was saying their entry was really long. Once I freaked out poor cleolinda doing that, and this week I worried a fellow LJ Idol participant after reading his affecting (and, I'll admit, long, but appropriately so) entry about 9/11 and its aftermath.

In both cases I explained it to the person, and maybe by explaining it more I increase the chances that it'll catch on and that fewer people will need it explained, but I get the feeling I'm using it wrong. I'm also thinking of either first posting the explanation/justification for "I read the whole thing" followed by "I read the whole thing," or simplifying it to "I've read this."

I hope you've read the whole thing. *smiles* Have a good night, 'Song.
