Tew's Day

Happy birthday to sionainn!

State of the 'Song
The weather brings aches and pains; migraine yesterday, and I'm taking preventative Excedrin today, but I'm feeling it in my muscles, too.

If you are an Arisia panelist, please note that the official deadline to sign up for your desired panels is October 2. However, that's also the day the schedule's being set. So if I'm reading this right, considering that I can't be at the October 2 concom meeting, I need to have my panels populated pretty much first thing when I wake up on Saturday. So please treat this like your deadline is Friday. Get signed up, prioritize things, et cetera. Today would not be too soon. I also need to narrow the list down from ~100 items to ~40, and the panels with less interest are the first to be cut, so if you see something you like, tag it now.

I was waiting on one last piece of information that was going to make everything easier. I got it, but last night, after I'd medicated. So TODAY first thing when I get home = schedule finalization and posting and you guys are going to love this.

Love this.
How much do I love that I got namechecked in a Whatever post? So much.

How much do I love that I got namechecked as Adam's wife? So much more! Because it is usually the other way around, you see, and I hate when his awesomeness doesn't get recognized just because I'm the disco ball in the relationship.

No Link Soup today, as I was Migraine Lass yesterday.

Daily Science
At the Large Hadron Collider at CERN protons crash into each other at incredibly high energies in order to 'smash' the protons and to study the elementary particles of nature - including quarks... To understand the effects of these strong forces between the quarks is one of the greatest challenges in modern particle physics. New theoretical results from the Niels Bohr Institute show that enormous quantities of random numbers can describe the way in which quarks ’swing’ inside the protons.

Work work work. Sorry, no Diesel today; I need to do Strowler stuff, and if I've energy I want to go through my closet and yank everything that doesn't fit. Also, need evening at home after the last two weeks.

disco ball in the relationship

This is perfect! I intend to thieve.

Doo eeet. It applies just as well to you, of course!

(I still owe you an e-mail.)
28th-Sep-2010 02:58 pm (UTC)
Oh yeah! No rush or pressure on that, it was mostly ventage. :)
29th-Sep-2010 12:26 am (UTC)
Yeah, that cracked me the hell up too. [grin]
28th-Sep-2010 03:01 pm (UTC) - fly-by quickie question

Sihaya Designs, and she'll be doing a mini-update tonight!

Thank you for the heads-up re: Arisia panels. I started putting mine together last week, but it doesn't hurt for me to finalize.

I will also light a fire under a certain laggard of my acquaintance to get his done as well.

Congrats to Adam! As someone else who's not the disco ball in my relationship, I'm taking great pleasure in his recognition.

Now, of course, we need to come up with a term for the partner who's not the disco ball. At the risk of claiming too much power for "my team," I'd like to propose "spotlight," because without the spotlight's help, the disco ball doesn't look so shiny. (Sort of, I suppose, a gender-neutral version of "Behind every man there's a great woman," because either partner can fill either role with no regard to gender.)

Hope your migraine goes away soon. For when it does, here's a candidate for your next link soup: The Oxford American Dictionary has introduced their list of new words - http://blog.oup.com/2010/09/noad3/

"Spotlight" is awkward; it implies that the other partner's job is to illuminate the disco ball instead of to be light.

I wasn't entirely satisfied with "spotlight" either, but its the best I could come up with off the top of my head this morning. What I'm really thinking of is one of those lights that has a spinning ball with various colored lights scattered around it, but I don't know what the name of that is.

No idea. I like absurdly dark rooms. ;)

Of course, in an absurdly dark room the metaphor falls apart completely and we're spared from having to find out the name of that light. ;-)

Hey 'song

Do I remember that you have some of the BPAL "Marquis de Carabas" ? If so, could I purchase an imp (or whatever the correct term is for a small sample) from you? My tween boy is in need of an ego boost.

I could arrange to meet you for lunch, or otherwise hook up via the Littleton correction or Strowlercon.

Sadly, I have only my own half-gone imp! It's available here, though, or you could check bpalmarketplace and sinandsalvation...
