Happy early birthday to ian_gunn, who advances a year over the weekend!

Hello to new reader anansigirltoo!

State of the 'Song
A bit more functional.

BARCC's next volunteer training is coming up August 23-27! Info/interview session is Wednesday. So if you've been thinking of applying, get on that.

I must post about start values and how I choose mine.

Link Soup
* Oh hai, rape culture in YA novels.
* Dear Google: I thought your motto was "don't be evil". So knock it off.
* Writing advice from Billy Wilder.
* I would totally wear a Jawa top hat. Y'all *know* I would.

Daily Science
In each cell nucleus, hidden in our massive strands of human DNA, lies the secret of longevity. Or so we thought. But tiny rings of mitochondrial DNA, responsible for coding just 13 proteins, might actually hold the key.

To which I say hell yeah mtDNA. I have been talking about mtDNA for years.

Friday Memage
Wearing: Green ruched top, ivory skirt with green print and beading.
Reading: Ash by Malindo Lo, The Checklist Manifesto by Atul Gawande, and Emergence: The Connected Lives of Ants, Brains, Cities, and Software by Steven Johnson.
Writing: Haven't this week. Hell, I still haven't read what I wrote during Blogathon.
Knitting: Still just the baby blanket, when I have brain enough.
Today is work, handing off the giant squid hat, and taking Bitchcakes to the vet. (Yes, the cat is affectionately known as Bitchcakes.) Tonight, if no help is needed, I'm going to the Mary Roach reading/signing at Porter Square Books, and I'd welcome company for that and perhaps dinner.
Tomorrow I mail all of the paid-for Blogathon stuffs, and then we go get our Elayna back! Attendance at slipjig's party is dependent upon Elayna's energy level. If she crashes early and anyone's going to Heroes, I may go.
Sunday is blissfully unplanned; I'm invited to Bent Wit Cabaret in the evening, but have only RSVPed as a maybe so far.

Everything here but picking Elayna up, mailing stuff, and taking Bitchcakes to the vet is malleable and subject to the needs of the tribe, for the record.

EDIT: I remembered that I have to do the monthly DPH paperwork, and that the paperwork changed with the fiscal year. I'm declaring that a victory.
