"Do you ever think about it?"

There are so many questions, so many answers. What do you really mean, anyway? His elsewhere? Or what sent him there? "Your elsewhere." It's not entirely what you mean, but it's what you feel safer asking.

He leans back, elbows on the back of the park bench. His hair is unbound today, and there are bits of dried and crumpled leaf in it, picked up from the tree he'd been leaning against earlier. His gaze turns inward for a long moment. "All the time and almost never," he finally replies. He's looking out across the lake now. You see him in three-quarter profile, you know you are not seeing all of him. "It's part of me. Even if I hadn't gotten the back piece, it would still always be part of me - the way I move, the way I hear music, the way I play music. The way I spin fire - sound is more a part of that than you know. But I don't think that's what you're asking. Is it?"

"Do you miss it?"

"Is that the real question?"

"Would you go back if you could?"

That's the real question, and he knows it. He leans forward, forearms on his knees, and tilts his head to look at you sidewise, all that hair sliding across his back and off the opposite shoulder, like a cloak behind him. "No," he says simply.

"But your music - why? How could you not want to go back?"

"Because I have music here, too. I have dancing here. I have friends, and a job I like, and a life. I make things, I explore things. My elsewhere saved me when I was a child. Literally. But I'm not a child anymore, and the life I have now is not a bad life. That, and I remember all too well what sent me there in the first place. No, Ash. I don't want to go back. I would rather be here. With you."

I have got to knit me some of these. Love.

What do they have to do with the storybit? Nothing save that it is still autumn in the story, and they're something Ash might wear for a walk in the park.
