Happy birthday to jet_li_wannabe!

Happy early birthday to thedigitalkuri, moniqueleigh, and oldmotherchaos, who advance a year over the weekend!

It's been a rollercoastery week, with the weather changes wreaking havoc on my pain levels and a bit too much activity. Exhaustion is.

The Internet is Awesome.
Metafilter saves two women from human trafficking.

My Internet, Not So Much
Keeps going out, which means that none of the dozens of time-sensitive things I've been handling via e-mail are getting handled. Adam's getting a new router today. This makes my lack of weekend travel plans certain, as I needed to be getting this stuff done this week.

Daily Science
In a feat that is the culmination of two and a half years of tests and adjustments, researchers at the J. Craig Venter Institute inserted artificial genetic material — chemically printed, synthesized and assembled — into cells that were then able to grow naturally.

Friday Memeage!
Wearing: Vivid blue shirt, Wyrding Studios jewelry, jeans.
Reading: Eyes Like Sky and Coal and Moonlight by Cat Rambo, The Cardboard Universe still.
Writing: Nothing, because I did not get a single second of writing time this week. Hopefully today, because I have two things in particular I really want to get done by Wiscon.
Knitting: The shawl and the baby blanket.
I was going to try to travel this weekend, but that seems untenable. So. Today after work needs to be writing time if it's not collapse time. Tomorrow I may be called upon to table for BARCC; last-minute request. Otherwise I am unplanned and need to be resting and getting stuff done around the house. Expect an updated to-do list if I have internet this afternoon.

Wearing: White pique skirt that Oona's said was from the 1880s, and it's plausible; black Ego Likeness tank top; awesome black Mischa jacket on back of chair; purple sparkly ballet flats with a ruffle.

Reading: Finishing up a re-read of Drawing Blood. Moll Flanders is in queue.

Writing: blog posts and comments.

Planning: A weekend largely spent sorting and filing the scary papers on my desk, now that I have a box of manila folders. WOuld love to be going to Killing Joke at the Paradise, but there are budgetary concerns.

The Metafilter story leaves me speechless. I am astonished and humbled by what a community can do when it puts its collectice effort behind it.
21st-May-2010 01:09 pm (UTC)
Wearing: Still my bedclothes, as it's early. I'll be buttoned-up later for work.
Reading: The Orphan's Tales: In the Night Garden by catvalente and 'C' is for Corpse by Sue Grafton.
Planning: to try and get some rest. This week took it out of me, and my body hasn't wanted to sleep as much as it should.

The weather's been unsettled in lots of places: here in Portland, OR we were sunny and almost 80 a few days ago, while yesterday it was windy, rainy and even hail-y, and down to the 50s. It's adding to crankiness. So you and a lot of other people have my condolences; a lot of us are feeling this, even those of us without chronic pains to face.

I think vivid blue is a theme today! (Kritter and I were talking about a really vivid blue house that she adores this morning :D)

Wearing: Dark purple sleevless shirt with sparkly gold things along the neckline, olive green pants, and (because i'm at work and it's f***ing freezing in here all the time) a grey zip-up fleece hoodie.
Reading: I FINALLY finished The Mabinogian after many months! Now I've moved on to Lois McMaster Bujold's Cordelia's Honor.
Writing: new report for work that just came in, and I think there will be a blog entry sometime soon taking a critical look at the power of belief in astrology as magick.
Crafting: Sigh. I haven't picked up my cross-stitch in months. I really must get back to that, I miss it.
Planning: This weekend is going to be crazy-busy!
- tonight: date night with D. Dinner up near Savage/Columbia, then who knows what.
- Saturday: birthday party for my friend Jess that night! So earlier that day I also need to bake cupcakes for the party. I also need to go shopping for a graduation gift for my friend Amanda, who just got her PhD and whose graduation party I'm going to on Sunday.
- Sunday: BBQ/Graduation party for Amanda

Wearing: Purple tee & old jeans -- cleaning clothes.
Reading: Boneshaker (And OMG it's really good.)
Writing: I'd love to find a spare hour today for either the novel-in-progress or some poetry that needs to get done.
Craft: Need to finish hemming a shirt for Joel.
Planning: Today? Making gazpacho soup, scones, cake, & sandwich fillings. Finishing cleaning. Having an evening w/ an awesome friend when she gets in for the weekend. Tomorrow? Victorian Salon & Tea FTW! :D

I wish I could make it to the party!

It's Venter, so I'd hesitate before we assume what he says he did is actually true.

Secondly, is there a reason you break form for Friday and not use the Germanic/Teutonic/Norse name for the day?
21st-May-2010 04:25 pm (UTC)
Friday has "yay, it's Friday!" associations for me in a way that Freya's Day doesn't. :)

I'll be in the next state over from you, and within 35 miles of fairylogic and not get to see either of you. Grrr.
21st-May-2010 04:26 pm (UTC)
I know! I was actually trying to get to VT to surprise you, but never managed to score a ride. :(
21st-May-2010 05:10 pm (UTC)
Damn it. Damn! That would have been a Perfect Surprise. If you weren't also in need of rest I'd come down and get you. I can't be that selfish.

Wearing: purple tee shirt in the exact shade of my underware (accidental coincidence, I'm not that coordinated), jeans that smell like the Atlantic Ocean, giant moonstone pendant

Reading: next up: Fables volume 12, then back to the fear-fucking/confidence-building books.

Writing: my vacation, my last psychic reading, my Wishcasting post for last Wedensday, dating profiles (ugh!)

Crocheting: still the star-afghan for niece #1, it's slow going because I'm a massage therapist and between the two, my hands get overworked and require breaks.

Planning: work meeting tomorrow at 6pm and that's the only set thing. aside from that, I am reading, texting cute boys, writing, crocheting, ordering new underware (had a bra commit underwire suicide the day before yesterday) and returning an unworn swimsuit to Nordstrom's to pay for it. ::sigh::
