Gojirawitz Girls Challenge: Ixi's Gambit

He looked up at me again. “Um… what?”

“I said, so?” I shook my head. “You were keeping something like that a secret? Honestly, man, you’re more paranoid than I thought you were. I mean, congratulations on getting a boyfriend, but… it’s not like I’m going to be mad at you.”

“But… But you know what this means, don’t you?”

I paused. “… Nope.”

“It means that I… I don’t like girls, like you and Mark and Mom always thought I did! And I’m dating someone I met on the Internet! And…”

“Zeke.” I put a hand on his shoulder. “Why are you trying to make me be disapproving about this? I’m not going to be.”

He sighed. “I guess that’s just the reaction I had been expecting.”

“Well, you’re not getting it, at least not from me.” I let him go. “Anyway, I have to give Ixi her burger before it gets cold…”

“You won’t tell her, will you?”

“Her? Ixi?”

“Not Ixi. She can know, if she asks. I meant my mom.”

“I won’t tell your mom. That should be you, not me.” I turned and walked out the door.

Ixi popped up in front of me. “Was it Zia?”

“Nope, it wasn’t Zia. He was hiding for another reason.”

“Really? What’s that?”

“He didn’t want his mom to know something. It’s a relationship thing.”

“Why didn’t he tell you or Mark?”

“I guess he thought we wouldn’t like it either.”

“Did you dislike it?”

“Nah. I really didn’t mind. I’m not sure how he got the idea that we would.”

“Well, maybe it’s ‘cause he never asked before.”

I smiled. “Maybe. Anyway, we still need to find Zia. And now we know that it wasn’t Zeke who was seeing her.”

Her face darkened. “Do we?”

“I mean, people can keep more than one secret, Leo. He’s seeing someone. That doesn’t mean he’s not also meeting with Zia.”

“I guess that’s true, but… No, it can’t.” I shook my head. “Zeke’s face when he saw I didn’t mind… If he was really doing harm to us, he would have had a guilty look on his face when I told him that I approved of his relationship. He would have been upset and disappointed with himself if he was being less of a friend than I was.”

Ixi raised her eyebrows. “You seem to know him really well.”

“Yeah, I do. I’ve known him forever.”

“And Mark, too?”

“Mark, too. But he just keeps changing all the time. He’s a pretty crazy guy.” I chuckled to myself slightly. “Yet he’ll never stop being the best hacker of all the people I’ve ever met.”

And the best chess player. But I wasn’t about to tell Ixi that.

Elayna is writing her way to summer camp! Sponsor her!

Yes, even though we already sent the check in; she has camp shopping to do. And remember, $10 gets you the item of your choice written in, $25 gets you a character, $50 gets you a plot twist.

She's not gotten any sponsorships in over a week, btw, and she keeps doggedly plugging alone to the end. Monetary encouragement would be verra nice!
