Dear Boston LARPers
21st-Mar-2010 07:19 pm
I have signed up for the Brandeis Festival of LARPs for the first time evar, so I can be in wired_lizard's "Bard of Avalon".

Aaaand I have no idea what else might interest me. I know a bunch of these are probably Intercon re-runs and the like, or you might know (or be) the GMs of some of 'em, so - recommendations?

What sort of roles do you like to play? I've been in a couple of them but I'm a relative newbie in the LARP scene.

wired_lizard and mllelaurel seem to think I can do just about anything; I haven't done many LARPs (I tend to get pulled in as backup when people drop out), but I've been getting nudged to do so. My range apparently goes from Minerva McGonagle to Rose Tyler as a pornstar to Loki.

Aside from my response below, you may enjoy the low-key (City Council of) Hounds Teeth. The game I played didn't have many players so I got to act out loads of different characters in the "horde". It was like improv. Loads of fun!

Maybe! I'm leaving myself Sunday as a potential recovery day. Never know how worn out I'll be...

"The Final Voyage of the Mary Celeste" is a classic game, involving and exciting, with a lot of interesting roles, a couple of which I think would be particularly excellent for you.

I've heard good things about "The League of Extraordinary Hogwarts Students" and "Kind Friends Together" (two games that are very disparate in genre, and running on the same night).

I concur on LXHS having been involved fairly heavily in the HP fandom for a while, it's a fascinating ride and really a lot of fun and puzzle solving. Fans of both HP and the literature from whence the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen spring will thoroughly enjoy being in this LARP.

Mary Celeste (which I was in during nevacaruso's run) was also full of twists and turns. I enjoyed it a lot as well as there are several different types of roles you can play.

Is there really any reason LXHS is inappropriate for steampunky teenagers? Elayna wanted to play, but apparently can't. :(

I honestly can't recall. I was an observer and came in at the last minute. I'm sure the GMs will be forthcoming if you ask them.

Alas, I don't know 'em. Ah well.

"Mary Celeste" is opposite "Bard of Avalon"...

Signed up for LXHS, but I'm cranky that Elayna can't be in it! Or the Alice game! Annoying to base games on kids' books and not let teenagers play. :(

Dunno about LXHS but I'm fairly certain the Alice game is pretty twisted with fairly dark undertones.

"Mary Celeste" is opposite "Bard of Avalon"...

...so it is. Well, "Bard" is a great game, too! I hope you enjoy.
