Well. Okay.

The doctor didn't argue.

...that is not less intimidating.

So I am getting an ANA, CBC, anti-Smith, anti-Sjogrens, celiac, and an unspecified something re: inflammatory. Results should be back in a week.

Now I run to BARCC.

Well, I am glad you are getting the tests you requested! The first step of Getting Better is knowing what exactly you are up against. And I have no doubt that whatever it is, you will kick its ass. :)

Hopefully the tests will lead to some answers! -hug-

Probably an ESR and CRP. (If she runs a hs-CRP, that only shows cardiovascular inflammation.)

Wow! O_O

Are you sure he was really your doctor? Perhaps a benign alien took over his brain?

Possibly an erythrocyte sedimentation rate, or a C-reactive protein level.

I have Crohn's disease and the C-reactive protein (CRP) is a test that I get all the time to check my inflammation levels - possible data point for the unspecified something re: inflammatory.

Sending good thoughts and best wishes your way!

Luck! I hope the results give you useful information!

Huzzah! You got your doctor to listen! You should get a cookie. You deserve it.

It would royally suck if you had lupus. But at least folks would have a better understanding of how to treat you. AND most people at least vaguely understand it to be something really nasty that you don't want to get, which requires less explaining than fibro, which most people really don't understand at all.

Erm. LJ doesn't like brackets.. Let's try that again.

<thinks good thoughts for test results>

Sed rate will see if there's inflammation.

Bloodwork is a good first step. You can do this.

*thinks good thoughts for you*

Be well, 'song.

I've had all the tests done and all are negative. Like you, I still am not sure about fibromyalgia as a diagnosis for me. My body is very responsive to the NSAID I take (Meloxicam, a pretty strong one) but I'm also on Cymbalta and that's what has really worked wonders, especially for my headaches. Exercise has made a huge difference in my body deciding to flare up or not. If I do all those things, I rarely have symptoms. So for me, it's less about the diagnosis than whether the treatments are working. Whatever your results, stay focused on finding the meds/lifestyle combo that's right for you.
