"No, I did, Dad. A few days ago."
"Oh. It hasn't hit here yet."
"I did, though. Don't worry. Thing is, we were saving it - we didn't want to deposit it and end up just frittering it away on takeout, like we usually do. We wanted to make a decision first."
"I'm going to a writing conference. And we're going to get some things we need for around the house, and put the rest in Elayna's Explo fund."
"Well - I'm glad you didn't *have* to cash it right away. That you didn't *need* it. You know what I'm saying?"
"I know. And things are sometimes a little tight. But we manage. It's just, with a decent chunk of change - we wanted to sit down and evaluate what we needed."
"Well, I'm glad you could do that. That you didn't need to cash it right away."
And it goes on like this, because as Dad ages, he is prone to repeating himself. But the gist of it is... Dad is proud of me for managing to run my household without requiring outside assistance. Even in the face of medical stuff and the general economic crap.
He is proud of me for this, and he wanted to make sure I knew it.
