Happy birthday to pierceheart and rhiannonhero!
Hello to new reader brigidsblest!
Mildly ouchy and weary; I think the latter has as much to do with undercaffeination as with anything else. I have been promised coffee this morning!
6 out of 6. Woo!
Last Night's Dinner
Appetizer: boudin balls and alligator both grilled and blackened. (For the table.)
Second Course: Salad with remoulade. Duck and sausage gumbo.
Main Course: Red beans and rice.
Dessert: You kiddin' me?
And oh, man, I am still full. I gotta not eat like that again! But everything was delicious. And leftovers are today's lunch.
My Triumphant Return
Will be Wednesday, October 1. (At 3:30 - anyone available for airport shuttle service?) So while I appreciate being kept in mind for weekend plans, dear Bostonians, I cannot attend.
Yes, this is a long vacation. Longest ever. This + the Vegas trip means I've taken more vacation this year than I have in about the past decade put together. Of course, this isn't a total vacation, since I'm doing WTD, but still.
Wind Tunnel Dreams
Meet the Large Fandom Collider.
The perfect synthesis of all of Kyth's best-selling series - the central quartz crystal and overall style of Gratitude, a scattering of pearls and stars, an Alchemy of Time gear, pirate booty, Rough-Hewn Fairytale...
This piece cannot be purchased. This piece goes to the person who gives WTD the biggest sponsorship. So far that stands at $25. So hit that PayPal button if you like what you see, and all this could be yours! WTD runs through September 30, with the last two days being twice the storybits, twice the shinies. Winner will be announced October 2. Should there be a tie, we'll let the sponsors bid against each other.
Also, go back and look at Kyth's gorgeous work on yesterday's piece!
Help me build comics programming! See my post from last night.
As if the mysteries of dark matter and dark energy weren't vexing enough, another baffling cosmic puzzle has been discovered.
Patches of matter in the universe seem to be moving at very high speeds and in a uniform direction that can't be explained by any of the known gravitational forces in the observable universe. Astronomers are calling the phenomenon "dark flow."
The stuff that's pulling this matter must be outside the observable universe, researchers conclude.
Samhain 2008: Truly the scent of autumn itself -- damp woods, fir needle, and black patchouli with the gentlest touches of warm pumpkin, clove, nutmeg, allspice, sweet red apple and mullein
In bottle: Spicy mulled wine.
On me: Goes musky. Ah, there's the woods. And clove. Beautifully spooky.
Needle in a Haystack: Hay absolute, sun-baked pumpkin rind, twisting vines, and the tiniest sparkle of gleaming metal.
In bottle: Pumpkins in the hay.
On me: Pumpkins fade to background and the hay takes over, with the metal note shimmering between.
Ichabod Crane: Dusty black wool, tea with cream, black pepper, muguet, and beeswax candle drippings.
In bottle: This. Smells. Terrible. And I cannot pinpoint why.
On me: Still awful. A bit like scratch-and-sniff stickers, actually.
A Blade of Grass: Autumn leaves scattered among blades of grass.
In bottle: Sharp crunchy dead leaves and withered grass.
On me: Yep. Mulchy.
Gwyn got decants of all of the Halloweenies; I'm testing the ones I didn't order first. Will have to compare Samhain to my Samhain '06 at home, see if I need to wishlist a bottle of '08.
I shall read til Gwyn wakes up. Then we go get coffee. Because I really cannot get my brain in gear without coffee - yesterday's WTD was like slogging uphill through sucking mud. After coffee, shower, WTD, then grocery shopping, pet store, and walking around LSU. And I'll go through the "how can I help you?" post and see who I can help.
