Say your pre-teen-then-teenager wants to live on Cheerios and ramen. (No, not together.) She rejects anything that looks or tastes like food.

Okay, that last is severe. She will eat steak. But she hates vegetables, and she hates spicy food, where spicy = anything not completely bland and/or salted to death. Child wants to eat nothing for dinner but ramen, chicken noodle soup, or pasta with red sauce. At restaurants, she can be persuaded to eat steak, pork chops, shrimp, and scallops.

Let's compound that problem. Enter Mommy. Shrimp and scallops are largely ruled out in my house due to risk of cross-contamination. Allergic reaction to shellfish = anaphylaxis. Not fun. Add to this the fact that my nutritionist does not want me eating pasta as a main dish. Side portions only.

So how do you put together a family dinner? And how do you give said teenager a healthy diet? Anyone have recommendations on stuff said kid might eat without major dinnertime drama?
