Happy belated birthday to sdn!
I've pretty much recovered from Friday's Lyrica-withdrawal stupor... so I've got a few aches and pains, but a fairly normal energy level. Which is good, because I have a lot to do before leaving town on Thursday!
I hate being away from Boston, but I love DeLand. *is torn* And it's 9 days this time. I won't get to see haikujaguar, alas, but I may see morenasangre and farren...
Wind Tunnel Dreams
Sponsors, if you want to help guide me, answer this!
Another serial idea - a series of twists on fairy tales. Must look at my Grimm's and see what I haven't messed with yet...
And the jewel-queens' daughters may very well have their own YA novel bubbling up.
* HaikuJaguar interview on the Strange Horizons podcast!
* Gremlins as attempted modern fairy tale
* iMedix - WebMD meets Facebook?
* Antique medical instruments
* Okay, I made one of those minicities.
* Moon jellies!
* Weird abandoned structure in the Russian forest.
Gliese 581: 1 planet might indeed be habitable
More than 10 years after the discovery of the first extrasolar planet, astronomers have now discovered more than 250 of these planets. Until a few years ago, most of the newly discovered exoplanets were Jupiter-mass, probably gaseous, planets. Recently, astronomers have announced the discovery of several planets that are potentially much smaller, with a minimum mass lower than 10 Earth masses: the now so-called super-Earths.
In April, a European team announced in Astronomy & Astrophysics the discovery of two new planets orbiting the M star Gliese 581 (a red dwarf), with masses of at least 5 and 8 Earth masses. Given their distance to their parent star, these new planets (now known as Gliese 581c and Gliese 581d) were the first ever possible candidates for habitable planets.
Heavenly Love and Earthly Love, Giovanni Baglione.: Ambergris accord, benzoin, teakwood, frankincense, myrrh, Mysore sandalwood, and incense.
In bottle: Myrrh, sandalwood, something thick, something that prickles my nose...
On me: Mostly benzoin. :( Medicinal, and goes to plastic.
Judith and Holofernes, Franz von Stuck.: Skin musk, honey, carnation, French magnolia, patchouli, sandalwood, and immortelle.
In bottle: Ooooh... thick honey and musk. :)
On me: The honey's sinking into the sandalwood. The florals tease at the edges, then disappear.
La Vague, Georges Clairin.: White peach, lily of the valley, jasmine, rose, iris, osmanthus, tangerine, white wine grape, and cream accord.
In bottle: Grape grape peach grape...
On me: PEACH AND GRAPE.
Lucifer, Franz von Stuck.: Indonesian red patchouli, amber, oak wood, pimento berry, fig leaf, and vetiver.
In bottle: Deep dark vetiver...
On me: Patchouli and vetiver. Too much. :(
My plans are more on a this-week basis than a today basis. I have a lot to get done before I go down to Florida! The house needs to be cleaned, I need to drop donations off to Solutions at Work and the food bank (if I can get the car out of the snowdrift!)...
Writingwise, I need to do at least a quick and dirty edit on the Wind Tunnel Dreams so I can get a chapbook printed as a gift for my birthfamily. And I need to write up and post a priority list of all of the projects I need to be working on... thanks to the short-term memory issues, I really need to be able to just look up at a bulletin board and see a list!
