Happy birthday to queenbookwench and skzbrust!
Hello to new reader tigerbright!
Ow. Ow. Ow. I spent much of yesterday dancing - I did this because if I stopped moving, if I sat down, I would not be able to get back up. Not just exhaustion, but pain - twisting my feet, spiking up my legs, sparking in my knees.
So. Yeah. Hi. I'm sore. That's an understatement. *stretch*
There are gonna be some changes next year. Oh, yes. But that's all I'll say about the negative aspects. Overall, 'twas a success! Wonderful food, excellent company. slipjig played "88 Lines About 44 Fangirls" and much more, and s00j played "April Fool's Day" and much more, and The Princess Bride was recited in its entirety.
Sacked out in my living room - gwynraven, elionwyr, slipjig, rafaela, s00j, and omnisti. And me. Awesomest slumber party ever.
There was a span of time late last night where the music was perfect and the party had mostly cleared out and everyone was falling half in love with everyone else - the balance was perfect. Perfect.
Uncle Rob sez: "You owe it to us all to get on with what you're good at," said poet W.H. Auden. Make that your motto in the coming weeks, Pisces. Your motivation for doing the useful work you love to do should not come from you alone. We, the rest of the world, want to be there inside you so that we can root you on and encourage you to give us your very best gifts. Tap into and refine and explore your talents for your own sake, yes -- but do it for us, too.
Blogging on Peer-Reviewed Research
A recent discovery in stem cell research is no minor event: researchers have figured out how to reprogram adult cells into a state that is nearly indistinguishable from that of embryonic, pluripotent stem cells. This is huge news that promises to accelerate the pace of research in the field.
Eggnog: Sweet brandy, dark rum, heavy cream, sugar, and a dash of nutmeg.
In bottle: Much the same as Eggnog '04 - sweet and rich and creamy.
On me: Mmmmm. Thick and sweet...
Archangel Winter: Crystalline, glassy ice whipped by a snowstorm. Piercing ozone, winter darkness.
In bottle: A little too chemical.
On me: Light ozone.
Midwinter's Eve: A melancholy, deep scent, poignant and brimming with nostalgia. The perfume of sugared plums over a breeze of winter flowers.
In bottle: Mmmm. All sweet plum.
On me: Yep. All sweet plum, and *delicious*. Need bottle!
Mistletoe: The plant of peace in Norse tradition. If enemies met in the forest and came upon a sprig, they laid down their arms and observed a truce until the next sunrise.
In bottle: Mmm. Luscious sharp green herbal.
On me: Another that doesn't shift, but that's okay! This is gorgeous. A bed of sharp glossy green.. bottle wishlist!
slipjig and rafaela are on their way out, and zarhooie's on her way in; s00j is practicing with her new loop pedal, and everyone is happy and gigly and silly. We're just going to continue on like that. :)
s00j concert is at 7. You should come! :) $10-$15 suggested cover; bring canned food for the Greater Boston Food Bank and used or new toys for Solutions at Work, if you have any. And s00j will have CDs for sale!
