Happy birthday to chemokitty!

Happy early birthday to mgrasso, la_belledame, ilk, and quem98, who all advance a year over the weekend!

Memo from my fibro:

"Look. We give you a few days of relative comfort, and what do you do? Mild hiking, and hours upon hours of fantastic but body-strenuous sex. Pacing, bitch. Pacing. For this, you get the general aches and pains back. Oh, and some more knee pain."

It's been brought to my attention that
a) Network for Good is charging a credit card fee. WTF? Do they think they're TicketMaster?
b) They don't allow donations under $10.

Ways you can get around this and still fulfill your pledge:
a) PayPal me, with non-credit-card PayPal only (if you use a credit card, PayPal charges me a fee, and I have to make up the rest of your donation on my own, and en masse, that could be problematic), at shadesong AT Please title it "BLOGATHON", and give me your LJ name.
b) Send a check to BARCC! Write "Blogathon" in the "notes" field.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help smooth the donation process. Thanks!

Congrats to the winners of the last two auctions, thisdaydreamer's lovely necklaces! With that and the one photo-auction receipt I've gotten so far (there'll be nine more), that's a grand total of $3,625.45. *faints*

My Life
I saw in a catalog yesterday a book titled "This is not the Life I Ordered!" This isn't the life I ordered, either. I could never have imagined this life.

But I love it. Oh, how I love it.

Musing on why I've been writing less lately, why it's less of a compulsion than it was in Atlanta - Shayara is all about a longing for home.

I've found my home now.

I need to write Donna's story for the sitelaunch/Primer...

Daily Science

A planet orbiting a giant red star has been discovered by an astronomy team led by Penn State's Alex Wolszczan, who in 1992 discovered the first planets ever found outside our solar system. The new discovery is helping astronomers to understand what will happen to the planets in our solar system when our Sun becomes a red-giant star, expanding so much that its surface will reach as far as Earth's orbit. The star is 2 times more massive and 10 times larger than the Sun. The new planet circles the giant star every 360 days and is located about 300 light years from Earth, in the constellation Perseus. A paper describing the discovery will be published in a November 2007 issue of the Astrophysical Journal.

Daily Scent-Stuff
Wow! I got a CnS for my Singing Moon order! :)

Cafe Zazou: Incredible dark and smooth French roast coffee with whole milk and two sugar cubes, a piece of dark chocolate and a petit gateau sec au marrons. Café Zazou is the perfect response for a little afternoon rest in between visiting Monmartre and Le Centre Pompidou.

In bottle: Ooooh. Dark chocolate coffee, with just the right note of bitterness.

On me: Same. I don't get milk, I don't get sugar; I get a bar of rich, very dark chocolate infused with strong coffee. Mmmm. I want to eat my wrist. Bottle wishlist!

Cavity Creeps: Your teeth will ache just smelling this one! Bakery sweets galore: chocolate chip cookies, ice cream and sugar sweetened oatmeal spice bars.

In bottle: Bakery. Complete with cupcake icing.

On me: Yes, cookies. With lots of vanilla - tamidon would like this. Elayna will love it. It's okay on me, but she loves the cookie-ish smells, so she's going to end up grabbing this. :)

I Had a Pony: Fresh and crisp apples, carrots, sweet feed and a flake of hay.

In bottle: A perfect red apple!

On me: And there's the hay, as an afterscent - the apple's still dominant. Interesting and fun, but not "I need a bottle".

Squashed Sugar Plum Fairy: Grab her! Don’t let another one get away or we’ll never get this dessert finished in time before the family arrives! Squashed sugar plum fairy done up with pomegranates, oranges, a dribble of honey and a dash of nutmeg, cloves & cinnamon.

In bottle: Sweet fruity goodness.

On me: Pomegranate and honey. Yum! I was hoping for clove/cinnamon, but this is still very nice.

* Allergist again. Let's see if she's there today. Fuck it. The road GoogleMaps gives me is closed, and I'm in too much pain today to deal with being lost - driving's difficult enough when I know where I'm going.
* Homebound organization. I'm a little stressed because I have general housework, online maintenance (almost 800 e-mails! Need to reduce that!), and my office is a mess. The stress-trap I get caught in re: physical housework is that I want to work on my office because it's too disorganized/messy for me to get anything done in there, but then I feel guilty over focusing on me-space when the common areas of the house aren't clean enough. (Have I mentioned that Adam's mom is visiting a week from today?)

Friday Memage!
Wearing: question!
Reading: Coyote Road: Trickster Tales
Planning: There are nebulous plans to see ian_gunn, gardenfey, and envoy tomorrow. Sunday is a cleaning day, since I'll have Adam home to help.
