Hello to new readers chemokitty, hammercock, pnh, and wyrdragon!
Oh, dude. My everything hurts.
Never let your dad push your wheelchair. (Yes, I ended up using a chair at Disney. More on that in a later post, most likely.)
Spooky is my personal penguin. :)
A treat for you
Who's on first?
Remember the gorgeous periodic table poster I posted about a while back? Here. Now you can explore it all interactive-like.
Testing Yule decants, and musing about the big updates...
Yule: It is Yule, and the Holly King has slain the Oak: blood red holly berry, mistletoe, wild thyme, verbena, cinquefoil, hemp, winter rose, evergreen, frankincense, juniper, and myrrh.
In bottle: Trees! Lots of trees. Trees in winter. Sharp. Evocative.
On me: Still trees. :) The verbena pokes its head out. And shoves the rest of its body out. Argh! This is a no-go. Dammit. I really liked the in-bottle smell. :(
The Winter of our Discontent: Embrace your villainy: balsam, myrrh, mandarin orange, bitter clove, artemesia, rosewood, nutmeg, dark musk, smoke and cypress.
In bottle: Sweetness. From the myrrh?
On me: Mmmm, that's nice. Balsam, mostly. With a base of myrrh. This is a lightly resinous/woody scent.
Haloa: Wine grapes, myrrh, frankincense and olive leaf, and the warm scent of offertory cakes.
In bottle: Buttery!
On me: Butter, butter, butter. Also? Butter. Where are the grapes? Where are the resins? I'm getting some olive leaf, but that's about it.
Sol Invictus: A radiant blend of solar oils: golden amber, saffron, heliotrope, hibiscus, citron, frangipani, frankincense, tangerine, mock orange, and orange blossom.
In bottle: Orange.
On me: Orange, orange, orange. The color and the fruit. Yech. Well, I was pretty sure I wouldn't like it; I got this and Snow Maiden for Elayna. She sniffed Snow Maiden last night and wants a bottle.
Now, the updates!
The BPTP update: Thank goodness all of the new Inquisition oils make me go "meh". The bath bombs, however... I'll definitely be ordering TKO and Ugh! Sleep and muscle ache relief, respectively.
The BPAL update: Wow. Overwhelming! I ended up ordering decants of, um, everything. Well, some of my favorites from the first two acts are things I'd never have tried otherwise, like Pulcinella and Teresina.
CD Act III:
The Parliament of Monsters: Dust, incense, wet tobacco, and a curl of opium smoke. Her tobacco scents tend to be very good on me.
Arachnina, the Spider Girl: A swirling, hypnotic perfume of black currant, poppy, red and black musk, lilies, nicotiana, and patchouli. Ditto black currant and red musk.
Eshe, a Vision of Life-in-Death: embalming herbs, black myrrh, white sandalwood, black orchid, paperwhites, tomb dust, and Moroccan jasmine. Hrm. This one, I'm not so sure about. I'm a myrrh slut, to be true, but all those florals...
Faiza, the Black Mamba: black amber, caraway, oakmoss, green sandalwood, bergamot, jasmine sambac, gardenia, orange pulp, vanilla, blackberry, black musk, white honey, ti leaf, and ginger. Vanilla, blackberry, oakmoss, musk, and honey are luscious on me. Jasmine, gardenia, and orange pulp? Screaming hell. This one, I just won't know til I try it. Ditto the Snake Pit. Snake Oil isn't one of my faves, but the additives interest me.
Hope and Faith: Hope is sugared violet, Faith is sugared rose. Violet works on me. Rose doesn't. This is only available as a set. If Hope works on me, I'll be looking for a rose-lover to split an order!
Isaac, the Living Skeleton: Bourbon, tobacco, dry bone, bay rum aftershave, and sleazy cologne. She had me til the sleazy cologne... will have to try.
Kataniya, the Clockwork Woman: Gentle flowers over hot metal, shocked to life with electricity. I wanted this to be Alanna's scent, but I don't think it's going to be. If the metal's stronger than the flowers, I may like this.
Meskhenet, the Vulture Maiden: Frankincense, hyssop, hibiscus, river reeds, orris root, palm frond, and olibanum. Now this sounds lovely.
Thalassa, the Galapagos Mermaid: Seaweed, kelp, salty ocean spray, bitter almond, night-blooming jasmine, frankincense, and benzoin. Please, bitter almond and jasmine, die.
Tiresias, the Androgyne: Dark, moody, and bittersweet: black currant, patchouli, tobacco, cinnamon leaf, caramel, muguet, and red sandalwood. I'm sure enough of this one that I'm tempted to buy a bottle unsniffed.
The Wild Men of Jezirat Al Tennyn: red amber, Spanish moss, Indonesian patchouli, ambergris, red pepper, two cloves, and vanilla flower. This, too!
Wulric, the Wolfman: cocoa absolute, French vanilla, birch tar, lavender, bourbon vetiver, wild musk, clary sage, and cistus. Hm! Fascinating. I wonder if cocoa absolute will actually smell like real chocolate on me.
Zarita, the Doll Girl: white carnation, iris, orange blossom, and sugared cream. Huh. I can't even imagine this one.
Priala, the Human Phoenix: Three deep, dark myrrhs, smoke, and cinnamon bark. Yes. Yes. Yes. Gimme.
Lunacy: Neither Hunger Moon nor Bakeneko are doing it for me. My wallet rejoices.
ABHISARIKA: Damascus rose, African orchid, cream accord, and Kashmir musk. The rose kills this one for me.
KALAHANTARIKA: hyssop, lavender, balsam of Peru, jonquil, and elemi. Oooh! balsam of Peru = shiny.
KHANDITA: fiery saffron, neroli, severe black musk, rose otto, and a harsh splinter of rosemary. I do not know what rose otto is, but hopefully it won't overwhelm this one; it sounds lovely otherwise.
PROSHITAPATHIKA: blue iris, fennel, dark musk, verbena, and a drop of star anise. Yay everything but the verbena! Die, verbena, die. You and rose and ylang ylang and jasmine.
SVADHINAOPATIKA: golden amber, oude, red sandalwood, massoia bark, honey, and currant. Please let oude not be the thing that killed Holiday Moon for me, because dude - honey, bark, currant...
VASAKASAJJA: skin musk, wild orchid, champaca flower, amaranth, tonka bean, and French vanilla. Yum! I approve.
VIRAHOTKANTITA: blue lilac, snowdrop, bergamot, night-blooming cereus, frankincense, Himalayan cedar, and stargazer lily. Floral like *whoa*.
VIPRALABDAbenzoin, Greek sage, hay, melaleuca ericifolia, oakmoss, and blue chamomile. Oh, here we go. That's much better.
DOLCE STIL NUOVO: Our interpretation of Dolce Stil Nuovo is a blend of rose otto, carnation, vanilla flower, lavender and jasmine with the clarity of crystalline white musk and the warmth of golden amber. Again with the rose otto!
CHINTAMANI-DHUPAPound well together sandal-wood, Kunku, costus, Krishnaguru, Suvasika-puspha, white vala and the bark of the Deodaru pine; and, after reducing them to fine powder, mix it with honey and thoroughly dry. I have no idea what half this stuff is, but the other half sounds great.
KANISHTA: black opium, Haitian patchouli, jasmine sambac, French magnolia and kush. No, really - jasmine, please die.
KHAJURAHO 2007: honey, date palm, tuberose, davana blossom, amber, white sandalwood, vanilla bean, Damask rose, and champaca flower. Never tried this, due to the rose; I'll be trying an imp this year.
LUPERCI 2007: This scent is for the Luperci, the Chosen of Faunus, the Brothers of the Wolf: raw, down and dirty patchouli, Gurjam balsam, and essence of Sampson Root sweetened with the heightened sexuality of beeswax, virile juniper, oakmoss, ambrette seed over honey and East African musk. I've already fallen in love with this one. *hugs her bottle of Luperci '06 and orders a backup bottle of Luperci '07* It is, appropriately, pure wild sex.
NIGHT'S PAVILION 2007: White musk, osmanthus, Nile lily and frankincense. Another I never tried, due to the florals. Trying an imp.
THE OBLATION: A stirring blend of dianthus, French lavender, blackberry, and white honey. Adam's response: "Did they make that just for you?" Mine: "Squee!"
THE PERFUMED GARDEN 2007: Myrrh and Moroccan jasmine with apple peel, Indian sandalwood, myrtle, quince, citron, and thyme poured over soft musk. Please, jasmine, die. Because this sounds great otherwise.
RED LANTERN 2007: Golden amber, blonde tobacco, Sudanese black coconut, rich caramel, black currant, white opium and delphinium laced with a sensual blend of Asian spice. Already love it, ordering backup bottle.
SMUT 2007: Three swarthy, smutty musks sweetened with sugar and woozy with dark booze notes. Never got to try it, because everyone was so nuts for it, and I'm not paying $10 for an imp or $40 for a bottle of *anything*. I'll be ordering a bottle of this unsniffed, because I think I'll love it, and if I don't, I'll have no problem swapping it.
So my order will be Luperci, Red Lantern, and Smut, whatever Yules I absolutely must have, and an imp-pack of the new pain-relief Panaceas. *decisive nod* I am less overwhelmed now. I am simply whelmed.
Any thoughts from y'all, other than "When does kebechet sleep?" and "Did someone give her a truckload of jasmine that she has to use before it goes bad?"
I will close this post by saying that I am wearing flannel pajamas with flamingos and Christmas-lit trailers on 'em. Life is good.
