Thor's Day

Happy birthday to seimaisin and sionnain!

Feeling better today than yesterday. Yesterday was pretty dreadful.

What comes after the Large Hadron Collider? Hopefully, the International Linear Collider.

The ILC will collide together electrons and positrons (fundamental particles with no constituent parts), enabling physicists to fully explore the kind of brain-bruising questions that would keep even Einstein up at night. Sure, we believe “dark matter” makes up most of the universe, but what the heck is it? Supersymmetric particles, or something else? While we’re at it, how did the universe begin? How will it evolve? Does it have 10 dimensions? Eleven dimensions? More?

Although Switzerland’s Large Hadron Collider, or LHC, will certainly chip away at these questions as it smashes protons together, scientists will need the more precise measurements of the ILC to fully answer them. Whereas the LHC might prove, say, the existence of the famed Higgs boson—the so-called God particle that gives matter its mass—the cleaner collisions at the ILC would let scientists figure out how the elusive particle actually works.

Maenad: Orgiastic mayhem in the extreme: sweet strawberry and orange blossom distorted by carnation, black poppy and hibiscus.

In bottle: Mostly strawberry, with a little poppy.

On me: Strawberry, with the sharpness of carnation. Poppy underneath. Interesting. I don't know why this doesn't have wine in it, though, given the name! I may keep this just due to the deities I work with, but I don't know that I'll wear it. The carnation has pushed through everything else. St00pid carnation.

Port Royal: Spiced rum and ship’s wood mixed with the body-warmed trace of a prostitute’s perfume and a hint of salty sea air on the dry-down.

In bottle: Yep, that's wood and rum. Hm, with an afterkick of said spices.

On me: *melts* Ummm. Spicy goodness. The rum is a faint aftertaste to the spices now. That's just fine. Wood, spices - a bit of a smoky undernote. Wow, this is nice.

I was halfway through the "Friday Memeage" stuff when I realized that today is Thursday. Heh. I don't know why it feels like Friday!
