Happy birthday to indrani_prime and skintalker!

Hello to new readers bikergeek, e_scapism101, jennifer, savage_rose, and sweeteepea! Welcome back to returning reader thesibylqueen!

Medical
Been an ouchy weekend. Just taking the brain-drugs now.

Daily Science
Via Inky Circus: New species of sea urchin discovered! Look at the picture! Beautiful. It's been named Coelopleurus exquisitus, and for good reason.

Daily Grammar
Look at this sentence and count the appalling problems.

Naturally there is concern where this new urchin came from and if it is being dredged up from the depths, the affect that may have on it's numbers.

Now guess the source.

The BBC.

*bangs head against wall*

Mike Judge's new movie is called Idiocracy. It's about a guy who's cryogenically frozen, then thawed out in the future - a future that has been so incredibly dumbed down that he's the smartest man by far.

I am no longer convinced that this movie is fiction. It may be a prophecy.

Daily BPAL

The Raven: Sleek, dark, and ominous. Violet and neroli mingled with iris, white sandalwood and dark musk.

In bottle: Floral, with a bit of weirdness. Maybe the neroli?

On me: Pfaugh. Heavy heavy floral, with that weirdass undernote. So not me. Elayna's making a face. Swap pile!

Anathema: A scent as heavy as thunder from the Vatican, with notes that inspire every sin and excess. Black opium, with vetivert and honeysuckle.

In bottle: Opium + vetivert = very strange. No hint of the honeysuckle.

On me: There's a bit of an... astringent note to this. Still no honeysuckle. This is not me. Elayna says it smells "kinda fruity".

Darkness: Bottled gloom; the essence of oblivion. Blackest opium and narcissus deepened by myrrh.

In bottle: This is the first BPAL scent that has actually made me recoil. One whiff, and I was like "aaagh!" It smells like those alcohol swaps the phlebotomist uses to wipe down your arm right before she takes blood. (Only once have I had a male phlebotomist. He was hot. But I was 16 and in restraints. So.)

On me: ...and this is why you must try these on skin - because on, it smells like a totally different scent! Dark and resiny. It's not me. But I'm not running to scrub it off. Elayna says "I don't know about that one."

Snake Charmer: Sensual, sibilant, sexual and hypnotic: Arabian musk and exotic spices slinking through Egyptian amber, enticing vanilla, and a serpentine blend of black plum, labdanum, ambrette, benzoin and black coconut.

In bottle: I'm getting the plum and not much else. Which is okay, because I like plum.

On me: Definitely seeing the similarity to Snake Oil - but whatever gives Snake Oil its ick for me is muted here. The plum is more subtle here than in the bottle. Hello, musk. The spices are also very muted.... I generally like my spices to be Out There, but in a blend like this, it's good that nothing predominates. This is even better on the drydrown. Elayna thinks it's "kinda good". I like my imp, but don't need to hunt down a bottle. (Thanks, Alanya!)
