Yes. I will be jumping two freakin' miles. With that first one being freefall.
Why am I doing this?
To raise money for RAINN (the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network) and SOAR (Speaking Out Against Rape). RAINN maintains a hotline that helps rape and sexual assault survivors get the help they need. SOAR educates the people likely to come into contact with survivors when they need that help the most - police, medical professionals, et cetera. For a start. They both do far more than that. And I'm signing up to be a speaker for SOAR.
I do fundraising for a lot of charities... but as a rape survivor, this one is particularly close to my heart. And it's one that doesn't get the sort of donations the Red Cross or the American Heart Association do, because, well, rape is a terrible thing, an ugly thing, and people do not want to think about it.
Think about it. Do something.
I've raised $1,130 for RAINN and SOAR via Operation Freefall. But it's not too late to raise a little more.
And if you can't, or even if you can and have, please post about this in your journal. Rape is the thing people don't talk about. Talk about it today. Raise a little money so the next girl and the girl after her have a place to call, to go. You have no idea how much it will mean to them, just to not be alone.
