Hey, kids! Science!

Elayna! - Karlita
This catalog rocks. We got one today, and Elayna practically wore out our highlighter circling chemistry and physics kits. And anything and everything to do with codes and ciphers, robotics, and - strangely - radio-controlled planes.

So! Parents of science geeks. Hit this. *nod*

I only wish they had a wishlist function...

Speaking of Elayna's brain - Quiz Bowl this Saturday. At 8 AM. Who schedules things for 8 AM on a Saturday? *pained look* But yes! Her first Quiz Bowl. :)

Thank you very much for that link! I do believe that I have found a holiday gift for ahf while randomly browsing through it.

Though I should really check a local store for something similar first. . . . Hey, mizarchivist, want to go on a shopping trip to Waltham sometime?

Her first Quiz Bowl.

Go Elayna!

nifty stuff they have,
too bad the web site is teh suck.
only 5 items per page, multiple entries for each item
(yes yes, different quantities of said item, but yuck),
especially in the puzzles and games sections.
Still, nifty toys for young and old.

Who schedules things for 8 AM on a Saturday?

*shudder* My litigation skills class. My trial is 8 am on Saturday, so I feel your pain. But. QUIZBOWL!! I loved it so much. YAY ELAYNA!

Rock ON. And a mighty roar to the (future) Quiz Bowl champ!

Heh...Looking at her picture, I have this sudden image of older male judges taking one look at her, assuming what they'll assume, and then picking their jaws up off the floor once she gets going. Rar!
17th-Nov-2005 02:09 pm (UTC)
Truly. She's got the little get-that-camera-away-from-me plastic smile in the picture - she's twice as beautiful in real life.

And she scores in the 99th percentile on all her standardized tests, rocks the gifted program, and does forensics-kit stuff in her spare time.

Those judges aren't going to know what hit 'em. :)

The only thing that could stop her = potential stage fright; she froze during last year's spelling bee, but that was her first time on stage. She did fine during the school play after that. So. We shall see.

We have been regular MindWare customers for several years. The website isn't great, but the customer service is stellar. And they do have a nice paper catalog you can carry around and drool over.

We get the catalog for the science and technology program I do at the Girl Scouts -- we can't afford to get that many kits, but the instructors do enjoy drooling. Speaking of which, O' Queen Of Pimp, I wrote a plea for money for the program I run, because without outside support, we'll have to cancel our New Year's Eve Overnight. The program is amazing and we're exposing older girls to two things: engineering and girls who think engineering is cool. The end result is positively amazing -- girls who stay interested in science and math throughout middle and high school.

If you could give us a pimp, it'd be great.

Consider yourself pimped!
17th-Nov-2005 04:02 pm (UTC)
Thank you for the pimping! :) We're hoping to do a Spring Fling in May - catapults, trebuchets, and slingshots - and the catalog you linked has the Backyard Ballistics book. :)
17th-Nov-2005 04:04 pm (UTC)
I almost linked directly to that, too. That's going on my wishlist!
17th-Nov-2005 04:07 pm (UTC)
What could be more fun than throwing stuff around? FLINGING IT WITH AUTHORITY, that's what.
17th-Nov-2005 04:11 pm (UTC)
Adam and Elayna and I were all clustered over the catalog yesterday going "Ooooh, trebuchet..."

Me: "Our neighbors in Boston are going to hate us."

How much money do you (still) need for your New Year's thing?
17th-Nov-2005 04:14 pm (UTC)
We're at $450 in donations, which pays for the overnight program center. We need another $550 to cover supplies and to offer scholarships for girls who can't afford the fee. Anything over goes to the next overnight.

Woo! Gotcha.

I'll hit my parents up, too.
17th-Nov-2005 04:21 pm (UTC)
Holy whoa! I wanna Power House!!!

Thanks for causing embarrassing drooling.
