I have to interrupt the VDayishness here just to chuckle about the fact that docorion's guidelines for giftgiving, particularly VDay giftgiving, parallel mine. To wit:
* A book. Could be other things, but hey, I'm a reader; I'm known for giving books.
* A book that means something to the giver as well as to the recipient. That the recipient is guaranteed to like, mind, but that also means something to the giver. (docorion is as big a Bujold fan as I am.) Because that way, it's not just "here's something from your wishlist" - it's "I want to share this with you." (Bonus, of course, if it *is* on the wishlist, which this was.)
And negative VDayishness - the fuckmonkeys at Elayna's school screwed up my carnation order. I paid for a dozen. They gave her none. And when I went in to try to figure out what went on, they asked for Elayna's full name, I gave it to them, they poked around, and they came up confusing her for someone else - the only other obviously Jewish kid in class. It actually took some time to get it through their heads. Y'know... I don't say that all goyim look the same to me. *sigh* There's more detail there, but I don't want to dwell. Fortunately, Elayna knows that I sent the order in; she knows I didn't forget her.
And she got a book. :)
And I've gotten cards from two of my dearest friends. I love you guys too... *hugs*
