Fuck everything & become a pirate

PhilCon Schedule!

FRIDAY
7:00 PM: EXPERIMENTAL FICTION
[Panelists: Shira Lipkin (mod), Thomas Willeford, Robert C Roman, David Sklar]
What is it? Is there a standard definition or does it constantly change as new experimental approaches are tried? Were works once considered "experimental" now accepted as part of the norm?

8:00 PM: SEQUELS AND MORE SEQUELS
[Panelists: Ty Drago (mod), Jonathan Maberry, Shira Lipkin, Aaron Rosenberg]
4 out of 5 novels in the novel category for the Hugo Award this year were parts of a series. Is there a trend toward more of the same? Is this trend a replication of what is happening in movies?
(I'm not sure I have an opinion on this (PhilCon sometimes puts you on things you didn't specifically ask for), but I'll do my best to develop one by Friday.)

11:00 PM: VERSUS (755)
[Panelists: Tony Finan (mod), Phil Kahn, Shira Lipkin, J. Andrew World, Genevieve Iseult Eldredge]
The return of the panel where YOU, the audience, ask the panelists "Who would win if X&Y had a fight?" This is a panel for those with a mature sensibility, and aren't easily offended (we like to WORK at offending you...)
(Shit, y'all, I have an immature sensibility! Oh, wait. I think that's why I'm here. Expect Genevieve and I to be hilarious at each other, especially if I've consumed half as much coffee as I think I will have.)

SATURDAY
11:00 AM: MY READING! Again, I ask that if you only go to one thing I'm on, go to this. There will be a small gift for each attendee. :)

2:00 PM: APPRECIATING DIVERSITY IN FANDOM
[Panelists: Orenthal Hawkins (mod), Stephanie Burke, Genevieve Iseult Eldredge, Karen Sullivan, Shira Lipkin, Jeff Mach]
In the last few years, controversies have erupted within SF fandom over such topics as race, gender, orientation, and other issues around diversity and tolerance. Why do we still seem to have problems with intolerance, and how can we get past them... or can we?

5:00 PM: IT'S TIME TO PLAY THE MUSIC, IT'S TIME TO LIGHT THE LIGHTS... MEET THE MUPPETS!
[Panelists: Shira Lipkin (mod), Rebecca Marcus, Victoria Janssen, Peter Prellwitz, Bill Spangler, Kat Grossberg]
Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the crew are back! Why do we still love The Muppets after all these years? What were you favorite episode or movie moments?

7:00 PM: GEORGE R.R. MARTIN'S "THE SONG OF ICE AND FIRE"
[Panelists: David M. Axler (mod), Myke Cole, Andrew C. Murphy, Shira Lipkin, Elektra Hammond]
This series, now up to five books, has also spawned a hit HBO mini-series. What is so special about Martin's work? Is it the "new Dune"?

10:00 PM: INVISIBLE ILLNESSES
[Panelists: Rebecca Robare (mod), Emily Tullis, Muriel Hykes, Shira Lipkin, Sally-Rouge Pax, Jo Blu Pax]
There are many in fandom who deal with what have come to be known as "invisible illnesses", or illnesses that are not readily apparent to those who don't have them. These range from physical ailments such as fibromyalgia, celiac's disease, and lupus, to mental illnesses such as depression. How should you deal with them, whether you have them or know someone who does?

And I was on one Sunday, but it conflicts with one of s00j's concerts, which I'm merch-wenching for. (I'm concerned about the 7 & 8pm panels, but hughcasey said no conflict...?)

I will be very busy. I am just saying.
Spoons

(no subject)

I have spent every single waking minute of today (not including 4:00am-6:00am, when I was just desperately hoping to get back to sleep) doing thing after thing after big time-sensitive thing.

Related: we need a staggering amount of butter for Thanksgiving. Areas of my house are spotless. I think all of my PhilCon planning has been accomplished. I'm having a Wyrding Studios jewelry party. I'm up to date on BARCC stuff. I've paid my bills.

I need a shower and a nap.

Note: I don't wake up in the middle of the night when I'm sharing a bed with someone. I am so looking forward to Sindrian moving in with us next year. (Adam has his own bedroom; I can't sleep through the racket from his CPAP, and he can't sleep through me poking him to adjust his CPAP when it roars.)

Uff. So tired I can't even.
