Odin's Day

Administration
Happy birthday to merovingian and n2mlq!

State of the 'Song
Ugh, too hot to sleep upstairs last night - and I don't sleep well downstairs. So. Tired.

EDIT: Also, discovered yesterday that I am currently so sensitized to soybean oil that I get the tingling, numbness, hives, et cetera just from kissing someone who's been eating popcorn with butter-flavored topping. I am not in favor of this.

Blogathon
Okay. Comments to last night's post has led me to believe that constructing a site with the necessary functionality is within our grasp - not mine personally, but once I was told what programs would be necessary to make it go, I knew who to ask. So we are actively investigating that, and should have more information by the end of the day on whether we can swing it. Essentially, time is the factor. We'll definitely have it up for next year. If we have it up in the next few days, we can work it this year, but that's scant time. If you've ever done blogathon or sponsored anyone and remember stuff about the site functionality, please go to last night's post and chime in!

My running total right now is $100 - thank you, perldiver! Sponsor me!

Anyone has Access I can install on my netbook so I can run my auction site directly? I'm not doing eBay because they take three big bites out of the payment, and I'm not doing an LJ auction because people don't reply in-thread and it all gets screwed up. gardenfey whipped me up an automated auction program, yay.

Unrelated to Anything
I never had a crush on Colin Farrell until I watched Ondine yesterday. Oh, my. Is it the hair? The accent? The graceful aging? The being an onscreen dad? The selkie story? I don't know, but ooohshiny.

* Huh. Interesting legal development re: polyamory.
* Tales of the elements.
* I want to make one.

Clusters of heated, magnetic nanoparticles targeted to cell membranes can remotely control ion channels, neurons and even animal behavior, according to a paper published by University at Buffalo physicists in Nature Nanotechnology.

Plans
swashbucklr's giving me a ride home from work again today, yay. Brutal heat is no fun. Today's pretty much my last chance to get any concentrated work done on Cicatrix, so that has to be my focus. Hopefully tonight I'll have Blogathon-backend stuff to poke at, and I need to work up a list of last year's short fiction to discuss at the relevant panel at Readercon. At least not staying at the hotel means I won't need to pack.
Fuck everything & become a pirate

We make stuff go.

Alt.blogathon site is in progress.

EDIT: http://www.altblogathon.com/

We need:

* To decide if we're going Wordpress or Drupal. Anyone with either skillset able to volunteer?

* A Wordpress/Drupal whiz on call the day of. I'm managing Team Venture, blogging myself, and most likely keeping the alt.blogathon blog running, I will not have the spare cycles to fix the site if it goes wonky.

* Graphics. An "alt.blogathon" header, and icons/banners to publicize.

* A decision on whether we're using alt-blogathon.com, altblogathon.com, or altblogathon.org, because bless tanyad and awfief, we have got those to choose from.

* Backup/assistant(s) for me on the running-the-blogathon tip. I will take point and get shit done, but having a few people to tap will make this much less crazy.

EDIT: On the funny side, I just e-mailed my pit crew to get their schedules set in stone. yendi, feste_sylvain, swashbucklr.

First line of my e-mail was "Well, this is an excellent argument for polyamory."
