Friday!

Administration
Happy birthday to ian_gunn and bardofevermore!

Happy early birthday to everyone who advances a year while I'm on vacation: asim, tsarinanic, havelyard, bitsyboo, pretzelcoatl, grntserendipity, australian_joe, terri_osborne, popelizbet, any_contingency, murnkay, jennifer, correspondguy, fairylogic, mer_moon, annaguirre, jasra, zarhooie, bahtswana, and corrguineacht!

Medical
4am again, dammit.

Other random knitting note
I have been referring to myself as a baby knitter; asciikitty said that I'm actually not anymore, since I have a few finished objects and am knitting in patterns, and kythryne pointed out that my current project is technically lace. So. I'm a toddler knitter! I think once I move on to triangles and hats, I'm an elementary knitter. There should be a belt system for this.

Why have I taken to knitting? Because it's patterns, and pattern-matching is one of my weird mostly-useless skills. I have a place for a useless skill! Plus I generally can't sit still, and knitting gives me something actually productive to do with my hands when I'm watching TV or generally fidgety.

Wind Tunnel Dreams
I've been doing WTD on the "I post it, you give me some money if you like it" model. It was suggested to me that I try soliciting money in advance - for every $25 I get, you get 500 words or more of flash fiction posted. This could be a dollar from 25 people or $25 from one person or whatever. What do you think?

Looking at doing WTD next week to fund Florida adventures.

The Power of the Internets!
New cover for Liar!

Friday Memage
Wearing: Skeleton shirt from the Museum of Science. Am not dressed yet.
Reading: The Life of Elizabeth I, by Alison Weir.
Writing: Little Cicatrix this week; hoping to get some I Am Thinking of You in the Spaces Between done on the train tomorrow, as I write it in transitional spaces.
Planning: Date day with feste_sylvain today! We will be apart for so long. :( So we'll make the most of today.

So.

Should I be worried that both of my guys have Manic Pixie Dream Girl fetishes?

What does this say about my MPDG status? *wary look*

(I'm still coming to terms with apparently being a Mary Sue.)
Hearth

AUGH.

Help?

My computer's trackpad will not single-click. Any attempt at single-clicking produces double- or triple-clicking.

As you can imagine, this renders it borderline unusable.

No, just pretty much unusable.

And Adam can't figure out why.

It's a MacBook, not pro, not aluminum. Yes, it's a few years old. No, I cannot afford a new computer. Yes, I have my old backup laptop, but I can't haul both on my trip, and the old one doesn't have enough room for my in-progress writing - we never did figure out the memory problem on it, and now we just don't have *time* to figure it out.

Using a USB mouse for now, but that's really unwieldy, and will be even more so on the plane.

Any ideas?

(Please excuse me if this accidentally posts eight times.)

EDIT: Have checked for battery bulge, and it isn't that. The trackpad controller is beneath the battery, but we don't know enough about it to mess with it; don't want to make things worse! We can try canned air when I get to Florida. Adam blew on it for now, and it is now not double-clicking *every* time, so hopefully canned air will clear it right up.

Evening miscellany

* I finally made Mark watch RENT today - the DVD of the final Broadway performance, not the movie - because I was sick of him panning it without actually watching it. Reader, he cried.

* But in order to get him to watch it, I had to promise to watch a movie of his choice. His choice? Yellow Submarine. Anyone got any earplugs I can borrow? *plaintive look* No, I'll watch it and listen to it - deal's a deal - and hopefully after seeing me supremely unmoved, he'll finally accept that I will never like The Beatles.

* I am aware that those are fighting words. Very well. To incense even more people: I can't stand Lord of the Rings.

* Elayna spent her chill time at Explo between the coffeehouse and the dance in the computer lounge - on Gchat with Adam. Aw. :)

* She sang "Where I Want to Be" from Chess at the coffeehouse, a capella. I'm not sure how she got it from baritone to alto; she was too shy to belt it in the enclosed space of the car, but has promised to sing it for us tomorrow.

* She had so much fun at Explo this summer. Once again, thank you so much, those of you who helped get her there!

* Tomorrow, NYC - express train, and dinner at the Mesa Grill, where I will decide if I can like Bobby Flay even though he pissed off Iron Chef Morimoto. Sunday, brunch somewhere awesome (don't know where), and see The Marvelous Wonderettes off-Broadway (Elayna's most interested in In the Heights, but it was sold out. We'll try to get to it when it's in Boston in January). And after lunch on Monday, Elayna and I go down to Florida!

* I don't expect to be able to check e-mail more than once a day through Tuesday. If it's an emergency, call my cell phone; number's in my Facebook info.

* And now, bed.
