Odin's Day

Happy birthday to pixelmonster and sainthuck!

About a 4 out of 10 this morning. Postponed meeting with SSD attorney due to lack of umbrella on rainy day (ian_gunn has my umbrella, and Elayna has my backup umbrella - yes, and hr umbrella; she left mine in her locker). Poo. This gives me more time to get my stuff together, though.

...is a totally open day. Yay! So I'm going to finish getting my office back in shape, then work on a few proof-of-concept items, hypothetically (if I get around to it) a necklace and a keychain. I ordered one of those soldering irons that goes cold as soon as you drop it. Yay for soldering irons for epileptics!

My fabulous husband
For new kids, particularly people at Diesel to whom I rave about my husband - he is yendi here on the internets. You should read him. Not only is he clever and nifty and with sexy brainmeats, but he's posting reviews of horror movies... every weekday of this year. (Yesterday's was particularly funny.) Go encourage him.

Daily Science
One of the most bizarre weather patterns in the solar system has been photographed at Saturn, where astronomers have spotted a huge, six-sided feature circling the north pole.

Rather than the normally sinuous cloud structures seen on all planets that have atmospheres, this thing is a hexagon.

The honeycomb feature has been seen before. NASA's Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft imaged it more than two decades ago. Now, having spotted it with the Cassini spacecraft, scientists conclude it is a long-lasting oddity.

Hey, LJ comments are down! I see your schwartz-error-message is as big as mine. Got anything to say? Say it in the below poll!

Say anything!

Some things can't be fixed

The child just broke my glass penguin menorah. The one tsarinanic gave me.

I am... a bit heartsick. Because it was my prize penguiny possession. And because it was a gift from Nickie. And... yeah.

I have attacked it with E6000 - I don't know if it's the best glue for the project, but it's the strongest I have in the house. Matching little penguiny feet up by break-lines. When possible. Some of the feet were just shattered to dust. I'll need to build them up again with Sculpey - mizarchivist, got any yellow?

The child was horrified. "Omigod, Mommy, I'm so sorry, it was an accident!"

And it was. She was careless, pulling a picture out from behind the menorah (the menorah was in front of the picture specifically to prop it up).

Me, falling to my knees to gather up shards: "It's okay."

Her: "No, it's not."

Me: "Well... no. It's not okay. But I know you didn't mean to do it."

She kept apologizing til I told her to please stop apologizing. She's back upstairs. I've done my level best to fix the menorah, but I can't, not completely. And so I am typing here because I am upset, but I don't need to be yelling at her about it; she chastises herself enough.

Just... fucking hell, man. *shakes head* I'll continue to try.

Friendslist cuts are indicative only of my inability to stay up-to-date on my reading (busybusy!), not of anything else. Were my time infinite, I'd read a *lot* more of you. But it isn't.

Generally, only people I don't actually have interaction with get cut. Which is not to say "Comment now!", it's to say that if we're just reading each other out of habit, well...

Also: Every day is Defriending Amnesty Day 'round here. So if you've been contemplating it, go ahead.
