* I am driving my child batshit crazy by chairdancing as she plays her flute. I can't help it. "Linus and Lucy" = Snoopydancing.

* We have been, for a few weeks now, at the point in summer where I want to chop my hair off. Just take scissors and saw away at it. I have heavy curls, you see, and they weigh down on my neck in summer heat, and stick to me when I sweat. But, as the Starks say, winter is coming, and I'll be thankful for 'em then.

* Elayna got a haircut yesterday - just a trim and some layering. Hard to layer her hair, apparently, because it's so long. So beautiful, too; the stylist declared that she wouldn't cut it even if Elayna asked her to. It's waist-length and glitters giltlike in the sun.

* Yesterday was a bad meds day and a bad pain day. Double whammy! My body was very "in need of a tune-up", in the words of my erstwhile massage therapist, the lovely and talented manifestress, who I recommend to all locals.

* My child is ranting about D flat and C natural. This is not even Greek to me, as I actually understand some Greek.

* Now she's playing songs and making me guess what they are. So I'm typing to avoid looking at her sheet music. This is "Little Drummer Boy".

* I haven't been doing much writing lately; very busy with Miss Kid. She starts sixth grade tomorrow, which will free up my time.

* I am so nervous about her starting sixth grade, and I'm trying not to let it show, because I don't want her to panic!

* The morning bus schedules are posted on the school's site, but the afternoon schedules aren't. How am I supposed to know when to meet her at the bus stop?

I will stop typing now. *nod*

The day before the first day

Child has:

* Outfit selected, down to jewelry and shoes
* Backpack packed (schedule photocopied - one on fridge, one for Adam, one in her backpack)
* Nails painted

...I hope I'm not forgetting anything...

Still no afternoon bus schedule info. People whose kids ride the afternoon bus (this is her first time ever), how does that work? Do I just bring a book and a folding chair to the bus stop 10 minutes after school gets out and camp out?

Aii. Middle school. I'm not old enough for this shit.

Life with 'song and Adam

'song, sweeping into the living room and pointing regally at Adam: "I summon you forth!"

Adam, looking up at 'song: "[gibberish]*"

'song, pausing only momentarily: "I summon you forth!"

Adam: "I'll give you points for persistence."

'song: "Yay me! I am persistent."

Adam, waving hand in 'go-on' gesture: "Why do you summon me forth?"

'song, abruptly losing vocabulary**: *points to kitchen*

Adam: "yeeees?"

'song, struggling, finding a word: "Cocoa!"

Adam: "Coco?"

'song: "Coco Coco.***"

Adam: "Okay..."

'song, bouncing in triumph at return of English language: "I summon you forth to the kitchen to make me cocoa!"

Adam: "You realize that this conversation would have taken about five seconds had you just said that, right?"

'song, floofing skirts: "That's not how we work."

* Sometimes spoken words are gibberish. My brain just doesn't translate them. In a conversation, I may ask you to repeat yourself a time or three. I could not watch TV without TiVo. *laugh* Adam is one of those people who, when I ask them to repeat, rephrases, which drives me bugfuck because I know that it's not what he said before, so sometimes I'll just ignore and repeat my statement, knowing that if I've missed something like "The cat is on fire," it'll come 'round again.

** This is one of my most common side effects. Words aren't reliably there. It's usually the easy ones, too, like kitchen and cocoa. I had a day where I couldn't remember the word for "door", but "aphasia" I had no problem with.

*** See Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. There is a character who speaks only in the word "Coco", yet all of the other characters understand her perfectly. It is unclear to me whether Adam understood that I actually wanted cocoa or thought I was making a Foster's reference, since he said this in the voice of the character. Who is, unsurprisingly, named Coco.****

****This is way too many footnotes/annotations for such a doofy little anecdote. *****

***** I *heart* Spooky. This is unrelated to the rest of the post.

The Monarch, with the text "I met her on The Live Journal." Got it!

I love Venture Brothers. And TiVo. And now I go watch the rest of the episode.
