Tiala - xana art

For those who knew her.

my_catharsis died the day after Thanksgiving. In the words of sir_alf, who knew her best, "she basically had an asthma attack, called 911 and somewhere between the ambulance ride and the hospital, her heart stopped and never started again."

I only met her once. But I'd've liked to meet her again. She was nifty; she was fun and bubbly and comfortable and a good person. And young, dammit. Not as young as Liz, but younger than me.

She was sweet. I wanted to meet her again.

She's suddenly gone.

Comments off here because there are people who need them more than me, because I don't want to feel like I'm soliciting net-hugs when she was sir_alf's love, my acquaintance. Appropriate levels of grief.

I don't know what else to say. I liked her and I wanted to see her again, and she is... suddenly gone. And you just never know. You never know when it'll be the last time you see someone.

Tew's Day

The usual.

It's pretty obvious that I'm not going to have 50K by tomorrow, but I'm not giving up on the project; I may have 50K by January 1, especially with the vacation time at the end of December, with Elayna in Florida with my parents.

Someone on my friendslist is starting a nonfiction NaNo-ish project for early next year - don't know if I should pimp it, because I don't know if it's for people on her friendslist only. But I'll be jumping on that to finish Walking on Water. (No, she's not requiring people to start fresh, just to post one piece per day.)

EDIT: Pimpin' with permission! The month is February; the community is nonficwrimo. :)

A bunch of you have been gathering addresses to send $WINTERHOLIDAY cards. I'm never sure if you want mine. So if you want it, here it is.
Mommy & Elayna

If you feel like sending material things, here's Collapse )

But let me tell you what Elayna really wants.

She wants a llama.

No, not for herself. She wants you to give a llama to a family in a third-world country, to provide the family with "invaluable sources of transportation, income and wool, which is prized for making blankets, ponchos, carpet and rope."

How, you ask, can I give a llama?

Through the Heifer Project. You can also spend less money and just give a share of a llama. And if a llama does not float your boat, there are many other animals that can improve the lives of families in need. A pig, bunnies, geese...

I promise you that if this child has a llama given in her name, we will make an audio post singing the llama song.

Other charities are also Of The Good. You know RAINN has always been my favorite; they're now in the process of launching the first online rape crisis hotline, and need your financial help to get that started.

So yeah. Books and DVDs would be supercool. And ThinkGeek has some great shirts. But there are people in need, too. So I can't go out just pursuing stuff for me.

Llama, y'all. :)

UK option: OxFam offers donkeys, goats, calvels, and camels!

PayPal: A few of you have asked for a PayPal button to donate small amounts towards a llama; here it is! Please only donate via PayPal if you are donating less than's minimum amount of $20. Donations of $20 or more should go through We'd prefer to handle as little money as possible, because it gets complicated and because we'll be taking a hit on PayPal fees. Plus you don't get a tax break if you don't give straight to them.

But for the $5 and $10 donations - yep, let's gather up some llama money!

Llama total as of 11:45 AM: One and one-thirds llama(s)!

Audience Participation Tuesday

Because I know I'd forget this if I held it til Friday...

What little inexpensive gift never fails to brighten your day?

We'd all love iPods and ponies, yes. But there are also those little things. Tell me something that costs under $5.00 - under $10, if you're really pressed - that just makes you beam when someone hands it to you.

This post prompted by the tin of Danish butter cookies the book buyer just handed me. Oh, I bounced. I particularly love the pretzel-looking ones, with the sugar-that-looks-like-salt on 'em. :)
Elayna! - Karlita

The Llama Project

We will be singing The Llama Song tonight. theferrett bought a llama. And dindin's mobilizing her friendslist to chip in for one.

A few of you requested a PayPal button so you could chip in amounts smaller than's minimum of $20; it's now up in the original post. Please donate only amounts smaller than $20 there - it gets complicated and we get hit by PayPal fees, so we really want to keep most of the money going straight to the Heifer Project's site.

We are at about one-and-one-thirds llama(s) in about four hours. This is overwhelming. Elayna will be thrilled. :)

A UK option was also requested, and here it is: OxFam doesn't offer llamas, but it does offer other animals. So my UK readers can chip in without getting screwed by currency conversion rates.

Yay. :)

“'song: "Hello, this is Shadesong..."
Elayna: "And this is Elayna. Thank you for giving us llamas! Now we're going to sing the Llama Song!"
'song: "Llama Song! Okay."

"Here's a llama
There's a llama
And another little llama
Fuzzy llama, funny llama
Llama llama duck.

Llama llama cheesecake llama
Tablet brick potato llama
Llama llama mushroom llama
Llama llama duck

I was once a treehouse
I lived in a cake
But I never saw the way
The orange slayed the rake
I was only three years dead
But it told a tale
And now listen, little child
To the safety rail

Did you ever see a llama
Kiss a llama on the llama
Llama's llama tastes of llama
Llama llama duck

Half a llama
Twice the llama
Not a llama
Farmer llama
Llama in a car
Alarm a llama
Llama duck

Is this how it's told now?
Is it all so old?
Is it made of lemon juice?
Doorknob ankle cold
Now my song is getting thin
I've run out of luck
Time for me to retire now
And become a duck."

'song: "That was the Llama Song by Shadesong..."
Elayna: "...and Elayna."
'song: "And thank you thank you thank you for buying llamas and parts of llamas in, in honor of Elayna for $WINTERHOLIDAY. Thank you."
Elayna: "Llama!"
'song: "Llama!"”
