Administration
Happy birthday to auryn29a and xiuzan!

Hello to new reader a_reading_list!

*growl*
Elayna's school is closed today.

And tomorrow.

Because of the hurricane that is not bloody well here.

This really pisses yendi and I off, seriously. He can work from home today, but not tomorrow; he has meetings all morning tomorrow, so I get to have her in the office all morning. I shall pray for her patience.

*sigh*

Another one gone...
Johnny Ramone died yesterday. :( We are sad. We played "Blitzkrieg Bop", "Rock & Roll Radio", and "I Wanna be Sedated" this morning in memoriam. Will play more later. We interrupted Elayna's TV show to do it, and much as she liked the songs, she really wanted to know how the show ended.

Bloody hell.
I can't say "bloody 'round the house anymore. I used it last week, and Elayna said, "Mommy, that's a bad word."

"Only in England. We're not in England."

"Still!"

I asked her if, seriously, my use of the word "bloody" made her uncomfortable. She said that it did. So I'm going to try not to use it.

This child and language.... she doesn't even approve of "heck" or "darn". Where does this come from? I mean, it's not like I want to use George Carlin's Seven Dirty Words around her. But "darn"?

Writing
Four segments of placesyouhaunt yesterday. I regard three of those, Anthony's journal, to be all one piece, but they were written at separate times of the day and thus posted separately; also, the fourth segment was just a teeny thing to close out her day. Still. Not displeased. And like I said in brief yesterday, I seem to be going linear, which is disconcerting. Good, though, I think. Training my brain.

My daughter is welcome here.
My department chair just walked by and poked his head into my back office. "Where's your daughter?"

He'd heard about the school closings and anticipated her presence. :) I told him that he might see her tomorrow.

My boss worries... but the professors don't mind Elayna a bit. One actually dug up a few mazes last time for her to work on.

Okay. Going now.

Hrm.

I'm in like.

Not "in like Flynn", or anything like that.

Not in love.

In like.

Hrm, I say.

Comments closed because speculation will not be rewarded, because it's not a thing; I'm just making a note of it.

Neurology Update

Heard back from my neuro's nurse...

My neuro feels that I need to be seen by a neuro. Very soon.

And she has no appointments available til January.

So we're transferring my care to another doctor, one who's new and just starting to build up her practice... she can see me next week.

This one's more of a generalist, whereas my current one is very specialized - epilepsy in women of childbearing age. The new one is just epilepsy in general. Which may be good, as my current doctor seems to be very general in her prescriptions; maybe someone fresher out of med school, with a broader scope, will be more open to alternate solutions.

One can hope.

I need a referral from my primary care doctor. Isn't that stupid? I mean, I'm switching doctors within the same damn office. I told them that Dr. P. said to go to Dr. L. They don't care. I need a referral. So I talked to a very nice person at the general clinic, my referral request has been marked as urgent, and they'll ask Dr. L's office to call me as soon as they get the referral so I can make a fuckin' appointment.

I hate HMOs.

Still. Hopefully Dr. L. will still have that appointment available next week by the time my referral gets there.

Aaagh.

*wince*

It is very disconcerting to feel the exact moment when your brain... slips.

EDIT: All cloudy. Trying.

Want to go home.

So nauseous.

Not parsing.

Hey, guess what?

Guess what I found out?

With heavy rain and about 20mph wind - the basement floods!

Not entirely. Just near the door of my office. Like, um, two feet out.

And about that in the utility room.

Which is where we store the comics.

Have I mentioned that yendi and I have been collecting comics since we were wee? Ish?

So now we're dizzy and sore from hauling boxes. We stack boxes high, so only the bottom layer was damaged, but that's still about a dozen boxes. But 90% of the boxes are fine, were stored high.

Some of the contents of the wet boxes are fine - we got to them before the water penetrated the second layer of the bottom.

Some are not okay.

We're doing triage.

Well, we were planning to weed through the comics anyway. So hey! A project! Thanks, Ivan!

Back to carrying comics...
