Of course, having a child and lacking the ability to drive more than ten minutes at a time, I rarely get out to the movies. So I need to be selective.
So far this year... well, you've heard me rave about Big Fish and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Tonight, terracinque was fabulous to me and allowed me to accompany him to a sneak preview of Goodbye Lenin!
You must all go see this movie.
The summary from IMDB: East Germany, the year 1989: A young man protests against the regime. His mother watches the police arresting him and suffers a heart attack and falls into a coma. Some months later, the GDR does not exist anymore and the mother awakes. Since she has to avoid every excitement, the son tries to set up the GDR again for her in their flat. But the world has changed a lot...
That is a thoroughly inadequate summary. This movie is funny as hell, and touching in a way that won't send you into insulin shock, and just... an excellent view into this world. And I don't really have words right now. Take my word for it. Go see.
