Happy birthday to idonotlikepeas and time_shark!

Hello to new reader ken_schneyer!

State of the 'Song
I'd been getting a few nights of okay sleep, but last night was made of fail. Sleep study next week. I shall persevere.

House Stuff
I got derailed from my schedule yesterday for the best of reasons - we got a call to check out a house we're very very interested in. Y'all. It's actually more space than we currently need, which means a guest room, office space, a craft room, a game room... Judah and I were wandering around all like "there's more?" Also, it's a single-family with a little yard space for gardening, a three-car garage, and a courtyard with a stone bench, and the (absentee) landlords are cool with cats and us painting the interior. It's $100 more than we'd set as our maximum; Judah would be paying the same rent he's paying now, and Adam and I would still be paying less. There's another place to look at today, but I'm really sold on this one, to the point that Adam's already filled out his application (he's going out of town; Judah and I can fill ours out tonight).

Positive energy please, and if it works out, um, packing parties at my house every day this month! Anyone who helps gets dinner. Judah and I like cooking in large quantities. :)

This would pretty much get rid of the rest of my big stress. I mean, I'll still be writing the novel from hell, but it's the living situation that's really getting to me.

Link Soup
* The Susan G. Komen Foundation decides that breast cancer prevention and treatment is only for rich people.
* So Planned Parenthood is having a fund drive.
* "To protest a bill that would require women to undergo an ultrasound before having an abortion, Virginia State Sen. Janet Howell (D-Fairfax) on Monday attached an amendment that would require men to have a rectal exam and a cardiac stress test before obtaining a prescription for erectile dysfunction medication."
* ‘Don’t Be That Guy’ ad campaign cuts Vancouver sex assaults by 10 per cent in 2011 !

Plans
Oof. Thing is, I don't know if severe exhaustion is going to hit at 8, like it usually does when I've been up since 4. If not, house stuff til Adam leaves for the airport ~9:30, then writing until Elayna gets home, then working on that college spreadsheet til Judah comes by to pick me up to look at that other house. Plans tonight are pretty much just menu planning, shopping, maybe catching a few more episodes of Babylon 5, and assorted late-night deliciousness. ;)

The house sounds awesome. I like helping people pack - I'd definitely be up for chipping in an evening or two. Fingers crossed!

Best of luck on the house. It sounds like what you and your household need right now. Have you contacted anybody regarding the state of your current landlords and any crinkly-paper agreements with them?

1. omg house AWESOME.

2. the vancouver reduction in sexual assualt = bonus awesome! It's always a pleasant surprise (to me) that anything like that CAN work. If the 10% is the immediate reduction, I wonder how much more it'll work over the course of time. Thanks for the link.

Totally. Our focus these days is on that sort of prevention, and on being an active bystander, because we know it works. It's hard to steer people away from "don't drink! never walk anywhere alone! never wear a skirt!", because that's the messaging they grew up on and are attached to. Our favorite comparison is drunk driving - when the focus of campaigns switched to "friends don't let friends drive drunk", we saw a huge shift. So we're trying to shift it to "friends don't let friends rape people" or "friends don't let friends take advantage of people who can't consent" (which is of course also rape, but some of the people we need to convince don't agree).

If it works out and there's packing parties, just leave me address/T routes in my LJ inbox. My strong food dislikes are bacon, raw or sun-dried tomatoes, and normally fish, though I will at least have a sample-size if it's a dish I haven't had before.
