A brief note

Hearth
Man, I fail at today. Mostly due to sleep dep; up at 4 again and back to bed at 8, at which point I slept all morning. When that happens, my brain is lagged all day. Total failure at kicking it into gear.

So I have done a bunch of miscellaneous small things and also one big one: got everything together for that grant application. It all gets packed up tonight and mailed tomorrow.

First-world problem: all the shawls I want to knit are worsted weight and I cannot afford more yarn right now. I have a bunch of sock yarn that I can do other pretty shawls with, but it's winter and I want warm snuggly things, not light airy things. Related: I am emboldened by my successful toddler cardigan and want to knit myself a cardigan, but again, yarn. I have single skeins of several colors of worsted, but a shawl needs at least two.

ANYWAY.

My sleep study has been approved! I'm goin' in February 8. Hopefully there will be an obvious and fixable issue. This cycle I'm in is really bad for me.

How's by you?

Just because I'm curious, what shawls do you want to knit? I'm about to frog Colonnade (again) because I don't know how to fix the mistake I made.:( 'Tis what happens when I knit into the night and begin to fall asleep, I guess.

Meh.

Oh, *everything*! *laugh* I've also been known to knit shawls designed for fingering weight in worsted, because I love big squishy shawls.

Right now I really want to do Lattice and Barbara W., but I'm also keenly interested in Kouyou, Murcia, and Texelle. I'm usually all about the lace, but I'm cold and gravitating towards chunkiness and texture. (I actually knitted a swatch this morning of a texturey design I have in mind.)

Where are you having problems in the Colonnade?

I just really need to knit earlier in the day, when I'm awake, is all...and I'm all about the shawls and fingerless gloves right now, cause I am super cold.

I have knitted fingerless gloves for - um - everyone but me. I need to get on that, because my hands are always cold, and I can do that with one skein of worsted!

Stripey shawl alternating two skeins of worsted! Or hold sock yarn double! :)

Sock yarn FORTYTUPLE on SIZE EIGHTY-SEVEN NEEDLES.

Done in MINUTES.

Also I have single skeins of bulky but not enough to do Iced, which I am CRAVING, can you tell I'm cold? So cold.

Woo-hoo for sleep study! Hope it reveals something they can use to help you.

SHAWLS. OMFG SHAWLS AUGH.

Frogging multiple starts because knit stitch after switch from reverse stockinette (but not the other way round D: ) is always too loose, no matter how much pulling/tugging/tension variation takes place. I'd be fine if it MATCHED. I want this done by mid-February because of reasons, but it's not even starting.

If I switched patterns to the other candidate, which already failed when I tried the free version of it, it'd be completely unremarkable and not playing to my strengths. Whatever those are in this context, since I am best at tubes.

AUGH.

Which shawl are you working on, and what's the other candidate?
27th-Jan-2012 09:28 pm (UTC)
Have you tried using a smaller needle for the too-loose part?

Yay sleep study!

This week has been stress and no sleep and yucky weather.

Hopefully today's game night will be full of win.

I did, however, get to take pictures of lovely tattoos on yet another awesome, funky, talented, brilliant artist type who is involved with someone who is not me. (Partial win.)
27th-Jan-2012 09:23 pm (UTC) - RIGHT NOW I AM SO FAR BEHIND I WILL NEVER DIE
Today, I am knocking down all the things as they stand up. Like a Boss. But it is hard-charging energy that is in me today that is going to charge me quite a lot when it comes time to pay, which only increases the urgency of CLAEN ALL THE THINGS, for after the nephew's tang su do graduation in... 70 minutes (crap), I will be porridge-headed, with so much more to do.

How long is the study? Will you still be coming to Boskone?
28th-Jan-2012 12:17 am (UTC) - Re:
Standard initial sleep studies are overnight, as are the followups. Only intensive studies last 10 days. Since she didn't say intensive, I'm betting it's an overnight.

Good on ya for the little and big things done... I know that the brain fog can be ruinous to progress.

Yay sleep study!

I am slowly doing better than I'd been, emotionally and physically, but I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally need some downtime, which I hope Boskone can provide.
27th-Jan-2012 10:25 pm (UTC) - Busy day ...
... I fully cleaned my bathroom, went grocery shopping with my husband, booked train tickets, and I am going to anime club tonight to register two on my niece's friends for Anime North 2012.

Are you on list with your local Freecycle? Lots of goodies to be had, and a good way to get rid of unwanted things. You can also put out a request to poke people to look around and see if they have what you want.
Depending on the shawl pattern you have in mind, there are ways to incorporate multiple colors. A border, for example. Also, using two strands of sock yarn will make for a nice bulky weight shawl. Just trying to think of creative solutions for you.

If you have two complimentary colors of worsted, you can do a very small stripes (2 rows each) and create a very neat color effect.
