Transgender Day of Remembrance

I have to believe in a better world
I just got home from PhilCon; I'm bitterly exhausted (three days of very little sleep + too much activity = crispy-fried 'song), so no recap right now.

But, just under the wire...

Here is the list of people murdered in 2011 because they were transgendered.

As my icon says, I have to believe in a better world. I am fighting for it every damn day. This list wounds me - I read it every year anyway. I read it because they deserved a better world, too, one that didn't feel the need to murder them just for being who they were. Trigger warning on some of those causes of death even more than others, by the way.

And I read them in fear. Because I have loved ones who are transgendered, and friends, and it is so dangerous in this world. I read them in fear because I am afraid that one day one of those names will be the name of someone I personally know and love, and as much as it hurts now, reading about the strangers...

Yeah. I'm medicated and exhausted and need to shut up and go to bed.

But I want you to read that list, please.

And I want you to work for a better world.
