Administration
Happy birthday to x_bluerose_x, avivasedai, and gwynraven!

Happy early birthday to jzer, taura_g, fiannaharpar, zoethe, and mizarchivist, who advance a year over the weekend!

State of the 'Song
Fierce oncoming headache. I have taken Excedrin and am hoping for the best. Otherwise, just generally exhausted.

My Week
Has consisted mainly of work, medicating the cat, work, "Elayna, go clean your room, do it now, put the laptop down, go clean your room", and work. April vacation week is especially made of suck because I am so work-fried and I have zero downtime; I came home at 8 last night and had to launch straight into dishes because no one else was going to. Hound the child, hound the husband, work, work, not a damn bit of writing. Not okay.

Other Than That
Yesterday ended up being a nice spring day. Actually walked from Central to Davis for lunch and coffee, and the speech went very well.

State of the Jack
Should have known it was too good to be true: They forgot to charge us for some stuff. Another $250 worth of stuff. *headdesk*

Jack himself seems to be okay except when we're medicating him. The other cats, however, are still hissing at him.

Wiscon Schedule
Friday 1-4: Running the Interstitial Arts Foundation's table at The Gathering. Tea, Cookies, and Subversion!

Saturday 1-2:15: Being s00j's Merch Jedi at her concert.

Sunday 10:00-11:15: Return of the Rape Panel, with Nnedi Okorafor, Beth Friedman, and Brianna Mueller. Um. My, that's early for that panel.

Sunday 1:00–2:15 pm: Living with Invisible Disabilities, with Cat Hanna, Alyson L. Abramowitz, Gerri Balter, grntserendipity, and Sandy Olson.

Sunday 2:30-3:45: Goblin Girls and Bedlam Boys Reading! With csecooney, pattytempleton, shveta_thakrar, and Howard A. Jones.

Monday 10:00-11:15: Is Science Fiction the New Reality?, with ktempest, Richard Chwedyk, James Frenkel, and Naomi Kritzer.

Wiscon Travel
Who else is going in from Boston? Got your tickets yet? Recommended airlines? Has anyone flown Frontier? It seems to be the cheapest, and I already have a poisonous hatred for Delta, American, and United.

Friday Memeage
Wearing: An olive-green long-sleeved shirt that I think of as sindrian's color, jeans, bird on a wire socks.
Reading: The Mesh by Lisa Gansky.
Writing: Nothing this week.
Knitting: A basic garter-and-eyelet shawl on the bus; Hemlock Ring at home.
Planning: I seem to have lucked into an unscheduled weekend. Which will likely be spent hounding the family and struggling to get five minutes to write. Yes, cranky. I have reason.

I can't remember what motivation my parents used for getting us to clean up the dishes. It was just one of those things we did IMMEDIATELY after dinner: clear the table and start washing. I think it may have been along the lines of "if you don't do dishes, we don't eat and you don't get an allowance" kind of thing. Wish I had more advice to give.

Yes! People get very dressed up for the dessert salon on Sunday, which you should totally buy a ticket to.

Yay, I get to see you!

Wiscon sounds awesome - I wish I was going this year. Maybe next year. I had planned for this to be the year I went, come hell or high water, but a little voice kept telling me not to register (the same little voice told me not to be a History Day judge this year), and as it turn out the house we're renting got sold out from under us and we're having to spend every dollar and every minute we've got trying to get into a new place by the end of May.*

* I try to be all rationalist and not believe in things like horoscopes and premonitions, but they insist on being right.

Good luck - and hopefully I'll meet you next year!

Hopefully so!

So sorry your week has been so frantic in the bad-and-aggravating-frantic way.

Why the other cats may be hissing at Jack:

Since he's got a mouth problem, he's probably not been up to cleaning himself properly, so he probably still smells like the vet's office...

Wiping him down with a damp cloth or those pet wipes may help. (If he's okay with that and won't freak out about it.)

I've flown Frontier! The flight we were on was a milk-run connecting Mpls to Milwaukee to Austin (and beyond!).

They felt like a shoestring operation, as there was no specific desk to check-in at MSP, no way to contact the connecting flight to alert them that we were >1 hour delayed by snow.

They do serve warm chocolate chip cookies on every flight - but on second thought, that's probably not a plus for you.

So do you have enough to cover the extra Jack expenses?
22nd-Apr-2011 11:05 pm (UTC)
Uncertain... my parents are sending some, so we'll see how much that ends up being.

It's ended up being $1K anyway. :(

Frontier was still in the process of assimilating Midwest when we flew them last year to Wiscon; in fact, our MKE-BOS flight on the way back was on Frontier.

(I already have tickets for Wiscon on Delta through DTW.

Thanks for the birthday greeting! I didn't read it until today, because being in the parents' house with about 4-8 other guests doesn't lead to lots of online time.
