Ugh and yay

The ugh: Saw Super tonight. I'm a big fan of James Gunn's movies The Specials and Slither. Neither of which were rapey, so imagine my surprise at the three rape scenes in Super. And that is not even the only reason Adam and I were really disappointed in Super, but given how much I've talked up his other movies, I'd be remiss in not telling you that I cannot recommend this one.

The yay: Dinner at Tempo Bistro in Waltham. Adam had tuna/salmon tartare and monkfish wrapped in prosciutto over paella; I had "Pan Seared Long Island Duck Breast and Confit Leg; Sugar Pumpkin, Candied Pecan and Sage Risotto, Green Beans, Cranberry Reduction". Damn, I was hoping the website would tell me what they did to the green beans. Because they Did a Thing that made me go whoa, and it's going to bug me until I figure out what it was! There was a touch of balsamic, but only a touch, and there was something else...

Anyway, the duck was holy crap yum, and the cranberry was absolutely perfect with it - and oh dear gods the risotto. This was moan-out-loud risotto. I wanted to have sex with the risotto. Adam expressed doubt that this could be managed; I reassured him that I could find a way. Dayum.

Adam had a chocolate bread pudding for dessert that provoked much the same reaction as my risotto did; being very full of duck and risotto, I had the mini version of the vanilla bean creme brulee, which was very rich with vanilla bean; nom.

They have an extensive gluten-free menu. I'm very choice-limited due to the shellfish and soy allergies, but I found plenty to choose from and totally recommend this place. Also, when we got the check? It had "***ALLERGY!!***" printed across the top so the chef couldn't miss it. Smart!

We will definitely go back. *nod*

EDIT: I was just reviewing the main menu with sindrian, and I realized: There's not much difference between that and the celiac menu.

Basically, almost everything but the pizzas, mac & cheese, and fried things? Gluten-free.

Because it doesn't have to have gluten. So why put it in?

LOVE IT.

Oh, that's awesome!! Good to see some places care about their customers' health.

I just happened across your journal and am a Boston-area local. Thank you for posting the menu link. I have an infant son who is in the process of being diagnosed as having celiac disease and every little thing like that helps.

You could have oral sex with the risotto.
