State of the 'Song
Still worn out. Need to call my doctor today, both for a rheumatologist referral and to see about changing my sleep meds; I'm on the highest allowable dose of Lunesta, and it is not getting me through the night; I've been waking up at 3am consistently enough that I've started taking notice when I actually sleep through the night. As for inflammation-based pain, I'm at a baseline of 4-5. So I really do need a solution for that. (My primary care doc won't prescribe Celebrex, is why I'm out.)

Quote of the day
Via Jonathan Carroll:
"Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.”
--Louise Erdrich

Read Stuff!
* "The Last Sophia", by the fabulous csecooney!
* "The Witch's Heart", by the amazing wirewalking!
* Poetry by the wonderful shweta_narayan and cucumberseed, among others!

Link Soup
* Okay, emilytheslayer has me hooked on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Which is the show that broke 4chan. SRSLY. Also you have to read this.
* Feline anatomy. I am calling everyone's thighs "sassypants" forever. For the record, that gets really dirty when sindrian and I do it.
* Use art to turn the world inside out.

Link Soup: Daily Science Edition
* Enceladus is inexplicably hot!
* Epilepsy-linked memory loss worries patients more that doctors; doctors were apparently clueless that loss of memory impacts quality of life. I am shocked, I tell you, shocked.
* Artificial nerve grafts made from spider silk.
* Newly identified cell population key to immune response.

Plans
Work, doctor calls, writing. Elayna will be performing in Bandarama tonight! Unfortunately, this is the one that also involves **shudder** fourth-grade strings. Augh.

Ok I want to warn everyone that in the 96 pages of macros and gifs at Knowyourmeme, about 1/10 are, you know, awful and potentially triggery. But still! Considering most of these came out of 4chan, that's actually a pretty good percentage! The fact that 90% of them are loving, funny, sweet, and not at all terrible is really pretty impressive!

Also seriously everyone watch this show it is the best thing.

I think I was Derpy Hooves in a past life.
9th-Mar-2011 02:02 pm (UTC)
Oh my god I love Derpy so much.
9th-Mar-2011 06:18 pm (UTC)
So, I have the right paint and the right primer and the right hair and a rehairing tool.

But there are lots of Derpy customs already.

BUT MUFFINS.
9th-Mar-2011 06:20 pm (UTC)
I don't see any downsides here.
9th-Mar-2011 06:28 pm (UTC)
Lots of existing customs = not original idea = brain freezes, because Oh Great, Plagiarism.

BUT MUFFINS. :D

(must shuffle icons somehow so that I can plausibly start using a pony here; stupid plus account)
9th-Mar-2011 06:29 pm (UTC)
Meh, making your own is never a bad thing even if somebody else did it first. It isn't plagiarism if they did it first, because it still isn't an original character. Someone cosplayed Derpy, but other people can still cosplay Derpy without it being looked on as unoriginal, I think.

Remind me to tell you about the lulz of pony customizers sometime. (Remember bread fandom? Now imagine bread fandom getting all up in arms because someone made Twilight bread and then another person made Twilight bread. Except with PONIES.)

Derpymaking might be an outlier case, because spontaneous different subculture.

(Also, this show splits pony fandom. I am deeply amused.)
9th-Mar-2011 06:41 pm (UTC)
Huh, that is weird. That's like if knitters got all mad about how everyone did a Clapotis.
9th-Mar-2011 07:06 pm (UTC)
I know, right? And yet.
9th-Mar-2011 07:08 pm (UTC)
And YET. Fandom, y'all.
9th-Mar-2011 03:03 pm (UTC)
I just did-this is OMG PONIES! awesome! Thank you for sharing and thank you Shadesong for sharing too!
9th-Mar-2011 03:04 pm (UTC)
HELLS YEAH PONIES
9th-Mar-2011 03:04 pm (UTC)
Yessss, I will keep spreading this like a virus until everyone knows about the PONIES.
9th-Mar-2011 10:20 pm (UTC)
I, for one, welcome our new pony overlords.
9th-Mar-2011 10:21 pm (UTC)
(Also, I now need to make myself a few MLP icons, dammit.)
9th-Mar-2011 10:02 pm (UTC)
Okay, if I had any doubt that I needed to watch this show, it is gone after finding out how it affected /b/ (I occasionally hang out on 4chan but haven't in weeks, so I missed it all!).
9th-Mar-2011 01:19 pm (UTC)
Thank you, luvcuff!

Re: memory loss and seizures. OMG...I *had* that conversation with my epileptologist. *he* wasn't worried about the episodes where I couldn't remember a blinking thing and didn't remember how I got from one side of a room to another, or how I got ice in my cup (when I don't put ice in my cup, ever) or any number of other episodes pre-diagnosis. He was more worried about the episodes where I could remember what happened, but had complete and utter loss of function.
9th-Mar-2011 02:14 pm (UTC)
love that quote. thank you.
9th-Mar-2011 02:41 pm (UTC)
Hee.
Spider silk.
9th-Mar-2011 03:40 pm (UTC)
I'm worried about Pony-related sanity loss.

9th-Mar-2011 06:29 pm (UTC)
These ponies make you sane.

I am serious. I am serious like PUS.
9th-Mar-2011 06:20 pm (UTC)
MY PLAN IS WORKING PERFECTLY.

Muahaha, etc.

*resumes looking for curlers so as to have a show-accurate Rarity*
9th-Mar-2011 07:25 pm (UTC)
Dangit.
You guys hooked me. Not that it is hard....

My productivity for the rest of the week may go downhill, but dammit, these are...cute and awesome. :)
9th-Mar-2011 10:40 pm (UTC)
Thank you!

The cat anatomy pic is wrong.

"Sassypants" are the floofy pantaloons that floof-kittehs have!
