$WINTERHOLIDAYS begin one month from today, and so...
1st-Nov-2010 07:29 am
Welcome to the Mall of Shadesong!

Okay, here we go.

I have some immensely talented friends and readers.

There is a major shopping spree coming up for most of you.

These, to my mind, are two great tastes that taste great together.

So! Writers, artists, musicians, et cetera, please pimp yourself in the comments below! Please include a link and a blurb. (If you do commissions, that's good to mention, too.) I'll organize and repost in categories on Friday.

People shopping for $WINTERHOLIDAY - shop here! Give your money to a starving artist, not Wal-Mart.

So. Hit me!

(Click the tag for last year's mall!)

I actually have an etsy shop now: CreepyDomestic.etsy.com. I'll be adding to it throughout the month. I will take commissions as well. I do jewelry, spooky household things, creepy-themed holiday ornament type things (spiders, blown egg ornaments), and baby stuff.
1st-Nov-2010 12:23 pm (UTC)
Daniel Fox, epic fantasy with a Chinese influence: Dragon in Chains and Jade Man's Skin are out now from Del Rey (and 22% off at Amazon, as I post); the final volume, Hidden Cities will be out in March, is available for pre-order and currently 33% off. What more can I say...?
1st-Nov-2010 12:24 pm (UTC)
(Oh, should I mention the PW starred review, at all...?)
1st-Nov-2010 12:38 pm (UTC)
There is never a time that I don't want to mention Tales from the Securemarket™!

Tales is a full-length novel set in a futuristic, magical wild west of a city, and stars the afternoon shift of the "Safest Supermarket in New Washington." A physical copy can be bought from Amazon, but you can also read it online for free!

Thanks for doing this; it is a great idea :)

Services? I ask because I'm trying to establish my bartending as an independent business (I am also looking for a part time bar job), but if you have people who are doing private parties over the season and who might hire a bartender, I'm more affordable than a large catering company, licensed, ServSafe Alc. certified, and I do the whole craft cocktail thing, supplying traditional flavoured syrups, fresh juices, extractions and a mix of homemade and small batch pro bitters. I also delight in creating new cocktails for events (the Sakepolitan for Laurie's party, the Jenny Says, the By Near of Byfar cocktail for the PMRP, etc), and am happy to work on something exclusive or themed for an event.

Thanks as always for doing this, Shadesong.

As one half of Mike's Comics, I'd like to highlight the following categories:

* Music and storytelling on CD. We are proud to carry the Revels titles and also have some oddments not found anywhere else here in the United States. We will also be listing titles from Bruce Coville's Full Cast Audio line later this year.

* Fantasy and science fiction greeting cards, as well as some fine art cards.

* DOCTOR WHO, TORCHWOOD, and BLAKE'S 7 stuff, of course. We are the largest British media science fiction specialists on the East Coast of the United States, and one of the largest in the country. We carry DOCTOR WHO toys, audio dramas, books and more. We offer subscriptions to DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE and to TORCHWOOD MAGAZINE, and carry a selection of TORCHWOOD sidelines. We are also the exclusive North American distributors of BLAKE'S 7: THE AUDIO ADVENTURES and BLAKE'S 7: THE EARLY YEARS. And to finish tooting my own horn, even though these are not British, they're still fun.... DARK SHADOWS audio dramas and audiobooks.

We have been in business since 1976 as a mail order company, and online since 1996. Orders may be placed by phone or e-mail.

And I sell books! Also about elves and aliens and furries and stuff!

And that's my spiel. Thank you, shadesong, for the mall kiosk. :)

Would you like a piece of wooden furniture designed to your specifications? How about a bas-relief sign? Wooden tricycle for the kid? Decorative panels for the house or art car? Been playing around with SketchChair and want to have your designs made? If it can be cut out of plywood, I'll design and build it for you for little more than material costs! I've got a 4' x 8' CNC mill that I need to keep busy, so even if all you have is a vague idea of what you'd like, message me and I'll make it work!

1st-Nov-2010 01:20 pm (UTC) - Emblems: Glass Art Jewelry
"Creating truth like glass from a furnace of inspiration - in these stones, horizons sing." - Gwyneth Lewis

I create glass art jewelry by working molten glass at my torch and then finishing pieces with other materials, from hammered silver or copper to lava rock, recycled sari silk, and other gems and natural materials.

I take commissions, and also have an active collection of my work available for purchase at http://www.etsy.com/shop/emblems

I've got some World Tree books at amazon.com ---

Sythyry's Journal, the diary of a young dragon attending university in a very civilized high-fantasy setting, complete with love, food, unintended adventures, and plenty of doom.

A Marriage of Insects, a fantasy romance of sorts, in a very civilized species with three sexes and a bad habit of child marriages.

The World Tree RPG, a role-playing game of species and civilization.
1st-Nov-2010 02:22 pm (UTC)

I am no longer taking commissions for the holiday season due to being extremely pregnant, but you can still get simple custom work made on the spot during one of several Instant Gratification sessions; check our calendar for dates and times!

1st-Nov-2010 03:40 pm (UTC)
I do voice work. I can do a number of voices and accents and will work on commissions. Song saw me on stage this past weekend and can vouch for two of my (many) voices. To name a few I can do: Kermit the Frog, Peter Lorre, George W Bush, Bill Clinton, Cookie Monster, Garrison Keillor. I also have a variety of good announcer voices. Accents I have include New York, Boston, a variety of British and more - I can imitate most any accent if I have a sample to work with.

If you want an answering machine message for your home or business, perhaps a short commercial piece you would like done, or you would like a story read aloud for recording and have some idea of what each character's voice should sound like, I can do that. Let me know.
1st-Nov-2010 03:42 pm (UTC)
I make knit and crochet gear: baby blankets, hats, scarves, wristers, etc... Here's a link to my photo album. I'm hoping to get things loaded on my Etsy store at some point, but for now, I'm just working on commissions...

Thanks, 'Song! :)
1st-Nov-2010 03:54 pm (UTC)
I make a variety of art objects, including jewelry and origami ornaments, but my primary passion is sandblasted glass. I have an assortment of inexpensive bottles up on my etsy site at the moment (nevenah.etsy.com) but will soon have some more elaborately carved vases and plates. Check back often for new stuff over the next month!
1st-Nov-2010 04:26 pm (UTC)

I make metalwork jewelry! This means I play with fire and hit things with hammers, and make shiny things in the process :) Metalwork is the stuff that lasts for generations--it's my favorite craft because it creates objects that are so solid, so permanent. I can create objects that come from worlds that never existed, and have them feel *real*. This month, I'll be making and listing a whole new line of pieces inspired by an alchemy-infused space opera setting of my own invention.

Right now in my Etsy shop, I have earrings (incorporating gears and/or beetle wings), a copper shawl pin, steampunk hairsticks, and other goodies. And I'm going to list a pair of cufflinks tonight!

(And yes, I do custom orders.)
5th-Nov-2010 02:56 am (UTC)
(The cufflinks I mentioned are now online here, if that could be amended to my spiel!)
1st-Nov-2010 05:08 pm (UTC)
I make full length kaleidoscope sweater coats from unloved sweaters. Drop on by and have a look. All my work is custom, I can do any color or size!

1st-Nov-2010 05:24 pm (UTC)
Hello, Mall of Shadesong.
I'm still doing stuff with the whole clay/tins/jewelry thing. I have let my Etsy site go dormant for a while until I can summon the energy to revamp it. In the meantime, if you have interest- pictorial representation can be seen here:
and here

Some of these items are still available, some can be recreated with, say, 2 weeks lead time.
cosmoscuriosites AT gmail DOT com for them's who want to converse on potential stuff of cool.
Did I mention I can make custom board game pieces?
1st-Nov-2010 05:43 pm (UTC)
Please check out www.moonblush.etsy.com. We do commissions for specific glass beads and pieces.

1st-Nov-2010 06:44 pm (UTC)
I always forget that I, too, make things.

I've got a U.S. history-themed t-shirt store, although I haven't updated it in a while. I promise, I will have a new Supreme Court "Girl Power" shirt with Elena Kagan up in the store in time for holiday shoppings.
1st-Nov-2010 06:49 pm (UTC)
I make handmade incense from scratch. My store is still pretty new but I'm adding more every week. :)

Do you mind if I repost a link to your shop in my journal's sidebar? I have friends who I would like to point in your direction.

2nd-Nov-2010 05:40 pm (UTC)
sure! thank you! :D
2nd-Nov-2010 06:33 pm (UTC)
Glad to help. I do a massive art post after Thanksgiving in which I'll also mention you. Your incense looks really interesting -- I'm not a big user, but I may have to try some sometime...

I am still selling jewelry at my Etsy shop. :)
1st-Nov-2010 09:43 pm (UTC)
(and my website, http://www.silverowlcreations.com, which has photos of many things that I haven't listed on Etsy yet, plus everything I've made in the past.)

I make wire jewelry, mostly wire wrapped antique key pendants that may have watch gears or metal leaves or pen nibs or sparkly crystals or other symbolic or shiny bits. I also make swirly colorful wire earrings, some wire wrapped filigree pieces, and, recently, woven wire archway jewelry.

I will do work to request and give the requestor 'right of first refusal,' with no advance payment required, for requests where I already have the materials. It may not be possible for me to do work to request in an extremely short timeframe, however.
1st-Nov-2010 11:31 pm (UTC)
I am taking knitting commissions from the general public!

If you have an idea for a knitted item that you would love to own but can't knit yourself, want a unique, handcrafted gift for a loved one, want to copy something you saw in a magazine, movie or TV show, I can knit it for you!

Details, terms, and links to photos of my knitting can all be found here.
1st-Nov-2010 11:46 pm (UTC)
What a great idea! I hope you don't mind me adding you as a friend.

For a limited time, I'm going be doing sketch commissions for only $5! Inked and clean commissions (no colour) are $10!

My email is jin.alarcon(at)gmail(dot)com if you don't have a dA account to contact me with. :)
2nd-Nov-2010 12:43 am (UTC)
Yay! Thanx shadesong :-)

I'm Chrysilla, and I make jewelry. Right now I sell through my Etsy store, http://www.etsy.com/shop/queenofthecatpeople and am available for custom orders. The cap on custom orders for the holiday mid-late December season is November 30th. Trades are not available for jewelry at this time.

I am known in the fen communities for making pieces inspired by SF&F literature, music, and other media :-) I work with beads (glass, vintage, pearls, semiprecious stones), polymer clay, and a little wire bending. My online gallery can be found here: http://www.QueenoftheCatPeople.com

I am also a fortune teller, and can do tarot readings online, via email correspondence, at/for NYC parties and club nights, or personal consultations in well lit public areas local to NYC. I can barter/trade for tarot (beads, art, media, food!), if you are curious about your fortune but low on cash. All readings are done with Tarot of the Cat People. Rates are listed here: http://qotcpcf.livejournal.com/1154685.html

For those who are local to Boston: the restaurant I work at, think tank in Kendal Square, now sells gift certificates.

The food here is ridiculously good, as are the drinks.

The website kinda sucks, though.

Its not mine, but a very dear friend of mine just published his book 'Ten With a Flag, and Other Playthings'. You can support a fantastic horror/sci-fi writer by pimping his book.

Here is his site: http://josephpaulhaines.com/blog/?p=704

And incidentally, he is now on Amazon! http://www.amazon.com/Ten-Flag-Joseph-Paul-Haines/dp/061540975X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1288662845&sr=8-1

Bookmarking his site. Thanks for the heads-up.
2nd-Nov-2010 02:52 am (UTC)
There's also cats_mall, if people want to get a listing there. :)
2nd-Nov-2010 04:32 pm (UTC)
Aha! Perfect pimpage opportunity. (Um... am I allowed to pimp people who aren't me?)

I know Halloween's been and gone, but are you in the mood for being musically spooked? =:o}

More of Talis's music is available here: http://www.marchwoodmedia.co.uk/talis/shop/

Beaded jewelry in glass and stone and metal. Major update coming mid-November!

Oh, goodness. I missed this somehow. If it's not too late to be included, I have fractal art, like this:

Gallery is here, and available prints can be gotten to from the image pages or at Deviantart, which is great at fulfillment but not so great at displaying all the thumbnails, so I give out the gallery link first.

Thank you. :) I am losing entirely too much time browsing other people's pretties; this is a great idea. :)
