Happy birthday to blergeatkitty and ceolyn!

State of the 'Song
Weary. More sleep nao?

Two Ways to Help People!
* sihaya09's beloved kitty is sick, and she needs money for exorbitant vet bills. No, there's no PayPal button - she wants to sell things before she turns to asking for donations. Her Etsy shop is Sihaya Designs, and her stuff is completely gorgeous and makes great gifts for yourself and all the women in your life. It's not too early to shop for $WINTERHOLIDAY! She also does equally stunning custom work!

* hammercock and taura_g are doing the Komen 3-Day walk; taura_g has made her minimum fundraising goal, but hammercock hasn't yet. She needs less than $500 to be able to do the walk. What are you waiting for? Sponsor her!

Knitting Argh
I need to buy DPNs for hats and wristwarmers.

Pretty much everything in my queue needs a different size.

AUGH.

Link Soup
* Ramona's seven evil exes, genderflipped.
* After the media apocalypse, stories survive as patchwork quilts. This is awesome. I will not take up quilting. I will not take up quilting.
* True Blood paper dolls.

Link Soup: Daily Science Edition
* Ripples in the cosmic background
* Custom-made gels suitable for drug delivery
* The brain speaks: Scientists decode words from brain signals
* Scientists examine possibility of a phonon laser, or 'phaser'

Plans
Another crazybusy workday, and this one's overlong, too. Might be time for a nap when I get home? I didn't sleep well again last night. feste_sylvain and I are hanging out at taura_g's tonight.

DPNs ... are those like knitting NPC's ??

Not quite. Double pointed needles :-)

'Song, I suggest Knitpicks. Their prices are reasonable, and if you combine your shopping with someone else, you can work at getting free shipping.

I love their needles. I need to get their smaller size DPNS. Usually, I just magic loop or dual circ everything.

(and yes, Galdrin, it's a completely different language...LOL)

... and just to add insult to injury, this weeks AWaD theme was "words related to spinning." The words were:

  1. (Mon.) distaff
  2. (Tue.) spinster
  3. (Wed.) dizen
  4. (Thur.) subtile
  5. (Fri.) homespun

For hats you want circulars, mostly. You really just need DPNs for the top of the hat - the very last few rows. You can go down a couple few needle sizes on the top of a hat, since you're only doing a few rows. You know, if you can't find or don't have the right size DPNs.

so get a few sets of DPNs for wrist warmers, and you can fudge the tops of hats for a while, and eventually you'll end up with more, but there's no real reason to buy all the needles all at once.

(let's try this again with the whole last paragraph)

I really, really, really recommend going Magic Loop for wristwarmers, particularly if you intend to work at finer gauge (or, indeed, with the same size needles you've done shawls with -- no extra purchase!). Dealing with the cable sticking out is a PITA, but things are way less likely to fall off (or compel you to knit too tightly if you're compensating for shit falling off).

I own a few sets of DPNs. They only get broken out if I can't find my damn cable needles.

And second on the Knitpicks, whatever you choose to do.
