Brain worms
I am accustomed to seeing every piece of knitwear in every movie or TV show reverse-engineered and the pattern posted on Ravelry within days.

Amy's scarf from Doctor Who? No dice. ?!? Doctor Who knitters are obsessive. Just do a search on Ravelry on the term "Dalek". Or "TARDIS". But no Amy's scarf. Well, that makes no sense.

I poked around.

OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.

IT IS DIFFERENT SCARVES.

Screencaps show several different red scarves that all look very similar from a distance, and yet are all totally different, just the same color and length. In Vincent and the Doctor, her scarf is lace. In The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang, horseshoe cables.

?!?!

On the plus side, I think this means I can just knit any pattern I like for Elayna in that shade of red in about that length and just say "she wore that one between episodes". But still.

(Adam: "Oh, by 'us' you mean knitters."
Me: "Yes."
Adam: "I don't care anymore."
Me: :P)

(No, I will not knit you a Tom Baker scarf.)

But...what kind of lace?

No one knows!

If Wikipedia wasn't down, I could check whether the particular piece of nonsense was still there that said that Tom Baker's scarf was thematically connected to Harry Potter's: British culture apparently understands a striped scarf as a symbol of having to undergo long journeys rather than the prosaic truth.

Bryan has a Tom Baker scarf. :)

Oh Adam. You care, you just don't know it right now.

Someone else with the same idea/problem is using this pattern: http://www.saunalahti.fi/meriam1/ohjeet/fftoppi/fftop_en.html

Not sure if it's what you are after, but it might give a start anyway :)

I was about to point you to the same place. I don't think Amy's cabled one is horseshoe cables, though. It just looks like random four-stitch cables.

There is also a scarf discussion on Ravelry: http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/who-knits/1152371/76-100#83

I just had a look at the stills from the finale two-parter of the cable scarf, and they are definitely four-stitch cables, not random, but not horseshoe. The center looks like horseshoe because the two columns of cabling on the sides meet at the same point in the middle, like horseshoe does. but there's more going on than that. That's all we see most of the time, because the scarf curls in on itself, but there are cables crossing on the sides as well.

You can see what I'm talking about in this picture. Also looks like it's got garter stitch edges.

But I already have a Tom Baker scarf! (and a Harry Potter one too...) ;)

I started crocheting one for my husband...

Then I lost it. Sigh.

The scarf? Or your mind?
5th-Jul-2010 03:30 pm (UTC)
The scarf, about two or three feet into it. :( And all the yarn I'd gotten for it. :(

That may have contributed to losing my mind. >.>

No, I will not knit you a Tom Baker scarf

crwilley told me the same thing, and she has the pattern for it. She has however offered me knitting lessons. :)

That's my new answer. I made one for my brother, and told him he had to weave in the ends. *evilgrin*

Then cable with horseshoes, I'll draw you a graph,
Oh Lord, won't you knit me a Tom Baker scarf?

Late to the party, and I assume you've already seen the Who Knits ravelry thread on the topic, but if you haven't, One of the members is making the lace version from Vampires of Venice/etc using the Frost Flowers pattern and has posted a chart

They had 4 greatcoats for Captain Jack, depending on what he was doing in any given scene. I want the one he wore for action scenes, the one that is cut shorter for running. The ninth doctor only had one leather coat, and I'd like one of those as well.

Not so big on scarves, but I notice the leather coats.
