Happy birthday to charitypomaybo!

Medical
Meh, but not as meh as last weekend; I pretty much kept my brain.

Ways to Help
Okay, this is a big confluence of things going haywire, so you get it in manageable chunks.

Help Finance a Liver Transplant
debsliverlovers: "This auction is to raise money for the medical and incidental expenses related to Deb Mensinger's liver transplant. Deb and Laurie will have a number of expenses that are not covered by insurance, including the costs related to getting the potential live donor to Massachusetts for testing and, if all goes well, the surgery. Deb has been disabled for several years by a genetic form of porphyria. Over time, porphyria destroys the liver, and Deb has now reached a point where she requires a liver transplant to survive. We all know how difficult it is to get an organ transplant, and how long the lists are. However, there is a spot of hope in this: Deb's brother is willing to be a live donor. If he passes all the tests, genetic and otherwise, the hope is that the two of them would go into surgery simultaneously, and surgeons would remove a lobe of his liver and transplant it to Deb. In 6-8 weeks, both livers would regenerate into full, functioning livers, and Deb will never have porphyria again."

Additional help needed from Boston-Area Folks!
ellen_kushner says "Every other week, Deb needs a ride to or from Mt. Auburn hospital, to arrive at 8:30 and come home at 1-ish. LM is available, but since she's already spending 1-2 days a week driving Deb to other appointments, it would be marvelous if someone else could do this, even if it's one-way and occasional. The dates through July will be: May 7, May 21, June 4, June 18, July 2, July 16, July 30." Deb lives in Malden or Melrose; Ellen's uncertain and is double-checking. Even if you can only take one of those shifts, you'd be a godsend.

Help a Flood Victim
moonstone_fae has lost her house and everything in it to this weekend's flood. Here's the list of stuff-most-needed; here's how to give money.

If you were affected by the floods and need help, just let me know and I'll add your links to the list.

Help Reesa Fight Breast Cancer

Medication Recall
Recall of a lot of OTC children's medications!

All Over Disasters
Oil in the Gulf, floods in the South, contaminated water in Boston, bomb in Times Square - am I missing anything? Damn. That's one hell of a weekend. Hell being the operative word.

I with my delicate immune system am worried. Giardia and cryptosporidium infection symptoms looks a damn lot like celiac symptoms, so now I get to be paranoid if I'm in GI distress because I got accidentally glutened or because I have an intestinal parasite. Yay?

Plans
Work, home, trying not to crash - I have stuff that needs doing! The heat yesterday made me too lethargic. Our AC unit isn't in yet - hopefully tomorrow night. So here's hoping that the rumored rain cools things down a bit. I shall see emilytheslayer this afternoon/evening, and this evening we'll speak with Elayna's lawyer and finally have an idea of how big a settlement we're going for.

They've been evacuating downtown and northern Nashville... the levee's looking iffy. The Cumberland River's hitting 10 feet over flood stage.

I.. that's my route, I go Hwy 31-S to Indy to I-65 through Louisville to Nashville to I-24 to Chattanooga to I-75 to Atlanta and on around I-285... and it sounds like 2/3 the state of Tennessee is fucked in one fashion or another, I-24 is shut down because standing water was stranding motorists and near Nashville there's video of a BUILDING floating down I-24 past some cars...

Which sounds really really stupid, "it's my route," but I saw the aftermath of the flooding at home, my parents basement still needs repairs and unfortunately they'd in the previous few months put a TON of stuff down there and lost it all, but they were lucky that the rest of the house was ok, but ONE HOUSE OVER? Effed. So many houses in their neighborhood. You could still see mud lines on trees scary high, weeks later, and it's flooding again down there. Washed out bridges and roads, they're still houses that are part gone closer to the river from September, and ye gods the terrain for that through upper Tennessee... it layers even if it's not really -my- space to freak out over.

I don't see anything on the river near them, and I got off the phone with B a little bit ago and they don't have power, but the bus was on time to get Miss Ma'am and my little brother, and nobody's calling schools around Atlanta so that's a good sign... it's causing accidents like bad storms ALWAYS cause accidents around Atlanta, but a bunch times over because of flooded roads and some places on the interstate.. my stepdad's delayed at Hartsfield but he made it TO the airport, so actually LESS worried about him...

Oh yeah, and there was at least one fire on the MARTA west line this morning that has part of it shut down and being run around via bus. WTF?

We've had a bunch of fires on the T, too. Ugh.

Wow. I was pinging over to tell you that I saw they'd fixed the pipe up there, though you're still under boil orders while they test all the waters and get it filtered through again... and.. freaked out for like three paragraphs at the mention of flooding.

Uhm. Hi. >.> I'm a lil bit overstressed right now. Sorry.

But hopefully clean water for you soon!

Also, icon love. Verra pretty picture, and I like the neat little hat/bow/specialness made out of your hair. :)

It's more a patch than a fix, but yeah - hope it holds!

Yep.

I can help with rides back from Mt. Auburn starting May 21st. I couldn't see a public post regarding that.

I believe Deb and Laurie live in Melrose.

Thanks for the signal-boost for the auction!

I've been waiting for someone to make a tolerable mix of that. That rocks! Where'd you find it?

Giardia is testable, at least. And there's a lot of promising work on preventing it, too.
