Happy birthday to nomadmwe, tonysalieri, and varkat!

Medical
Totally exhausted. Nap yesterday was interrupted by very loud people across the street, and I was out way too late.

Explo!
More Ixi's Gambit when Elayna gets home from school.

The key pendant and blanket auctions are over! The beautiful hand-painted tambourine is going through midnight tomorrow, and the swap box of doom is going through late Thursday.

My final payment to Explo is due Saturday, May 1.

Plans
Work, home, hopefully some time to answer backed-up e-mail and stuff before I collapse into nap? Dinner with D. and not being out late. No out late tonight, as I will have no naptime tomorrow.

the majority of rapes are perpetrated by only 4 percent to 8 percent of the male population, who average six rapes apiece by the time they graduate.

On the one hand, it's great that 92% of men are not jackasses. Whew.

On the other hand, SIX rapes apiece? BA-ROKEN!

On the gripping hand, this is self-reported data? HOLY FUCK WRONG

Err, to clarify... what's wrong with self-reported data is that people aren't (apparently) ashamed or wanting to hide their crimes. If they are willing to talk freely about abusive criminal behavior then there's something seriously wrong. There's also some question about the accuracy of self-reported data, but that question doesn't affect the attitude that I think is the holy-fuck-wrong part.

You should google Lisak's work... I can put some of it together for you eventually, but that's if I remember. I'm a bear of little brain right now. The study questions:

(1) Have you ever been in a situation where you tried, but for various reasons did not succeed, in having sexual intercourse with an adult by using or threatening to use physical force (twisting their arm, holding them down, etc.) if they did not cooperate?
(2) Have you ever had sexual intercourse with someone, even though they did not want to, because they were too intoxicated (on alcohol or drugs) to resist your sexual advances (e.g., removing their clothes)?
(3) Have you ever had sexual intercourse with an adult when they didn’t want to because you used or threatened to use physical force (twisting their arm; holding them down, etc.) if they didn’t cooperate?
(4) Have you ever had oral sex with an adult when they didn’t want to because you used or threatened to use physical force (twisting their arm; holding them down, etc.) if they didn’t cooperate?

I've read some of Lisak's public stuff (popular press and the interview linked) but not the originals.

Frankly that's a stomach-turning list of questions. The idea that 8% of my mates don't get similar waves of revulsion is pretty damned scary.

There's a video interview by Lisak that we watch as part of our training. The serial rapist is played by an actor shown in silhouette, but all of his lines are the answers an actual serial rapist gave. It is deeply creepy.

So by not using the *word* rape, they also get honest results from the guys who think rapist = some guy in the bushes, not them, they just get chicks too drunk to object.

Bear of little brain today. I can elucidate more later.
