Happy birthday to grimmwire!

Medical
Ugh. Last night was especially arduous - my coughing fits kept waking me up, not just because of coughing, but because sometimes I could not get back to breathing after them. Bronchospasm FAIL. Also really scary.

So yeah. Much coughing, but it is all nonproductive coughing. The snot goblins have colonized my lungs, and they are not budging a millimeter. Even more frustration - I have spaced-out sick-girl brain, so I can't even use this couchbound time to get some writing. I am marathoning RuPaul's Drag Race, because that is what my brain is capable of right now.

Spending one's days silent and relatively immobile is vexing.

No link soup or science today, as my brain is not really here. Instead, have a death-metal cover of "I'm on a Boat".

'Spending one's days silent and relatively immobile is vexing.'

I believe this is the title of the next Morrissey single.

Mucinex. Get the strongest: MucinexDM, 1200 mg. Take it every 12 hours, and drink lots of fluid with it. I have asthma and when I get an upper-respiratory funk, this keeps the crap moving and stops the scary breathing problems.

Yes to the Mucinex, I am a strong proponent of Mucinex. Partly because Dr. prescribed when Bronchitis became a regular show up in January/February (except now w/Mucinex and Vaporisor not) and partly because there's this weird Guafesin protocol quack thingy for fibromyalia that may actually do something?

Ugh. Last night was especially arduous - my coughing fits kept waking me up, not just because of coughing, but because sometimes I could not get back to breathing after them.

If the coughing fits like that don't go away, speak to your doctor. You could have pertussis. In adults there is no "inspiratory whoop" that is the tell-tale sign of the disease in children... we adults have larger trachea, and also tend to exert more control over our body - so you don't get sound effects on the inhale... However, not being able to stop coughing in order to breathe, coughing yourself into vomiting, or not being able to inhale immediately after a coughing fit are some symptoms of coughing fits that come with pertusis.

I hope it's not that - but having had it myself in college, I'm sure it would be much more pleasant to get treated by a doctor than to wait for your body to get rid of it on its own after several weeks...

Feel better soon! :)

9th-Mar-2010 08:43 pm (UTC) - About the snot goblins...
Do you know about/use the Flutter or anything like that? I ask cause it's something my doctors really should have told me about but I found out about it mostly by chance.

It's a bitch and a half to use but it does seem to clear that mucus out.

Hm! I should look into that.
