Oh hey BARCC blog!

Dear people willing to be interviewed for an article on campus sexual assault: You rock, and I have saved all of your names and will get back to you for a later article. My article was pre-empted but for a good cause! Two of our directors wrote an Official Response and asked if that could be the blog post on the topic for this week. So of course yes. It's excellent, and you should go read it.

And! Scroll down! Because Dave has a really great, thoughtful post on the perils of doing this work as a man... it's called "Being the Good Guy". And Tommy has an insightful dissection of "The Lady Gaga Moment".

And neither of those is getting the comments they deserve, so go forth and let them know they're kicking ass. :)

Maybe I'm in a sour mood, but Dave's post was really unaffecting to me.

Yes, being the "good guy" because it gets you brownie points and might get you laid isn't actually good.

Also, sun rises in east.

Not everyone has thought about this stuff before. I know *you* have. :)

What 'Song said, and also just that it's really a difficult thing to face up to if you've never examined your privilege in that area. The part that I liked from his post wasn't the part about like "doing this for the wrong reasons" it was the part about how doing this thing that is definitely good and right does not mean you can't still get called out on privilege.

That. Which we see a lot in white-ally circles - "But I'm an ally, so what I said can't have been racist!"

Right, exactly. And really, I think Dave's post is a good thing that needs to be said. It might not be a new thing for most of the readers, but reminders are good too.

You're both absolutely right of course, hence my "I might just be in a sour mood" thing. ^_^

This is probably just me being cranky.

Oh, no worries at all. :)

I am as big of a Lady Gaga fan as the next gay*, but I can't get all behind "The Lady Gaga Moment" when, really, she's not as original, edgy, or deep as people seem to want us to think she is. Is she good at what she does? Oh hell yes. But she is far from the first person to do any of these things or even all of these things.

*: I can't tell if I'm suffering from Margaret Cho overload or just have been going to way too many gay (bear) themed social functions that I can actually manage to put that into normal conversation now. I'm skeered.

All that said, I now have Papparazi stuck in my head. And I don't have that CD with me at work. *mutters*
