Happy birthday to transfiguration!

Medical
Ugh. Glutened at some point yesterday, most definitely. GI stuff plus skin stuff makes that pretty clear. I will remain bathroom-adjacent today and pop antihistamines for the skin...

Dear Marketing/PR Folks
kythryne needs you! She says "I'm looking for a PR person/business who specializes in creative marketing for small businesses/etailers/artists. Non-traditional marketing is what has historically worked best for me (social networking, viral marketing, etc) but I lack the time and energy to do it myself these days. I have a modest budget and equally modest goals. kythryne@wyrdingstudios.com is the best way to reach me." The business in question is the wonderful Wyrding Studios.

Elayna's Impending Awesome Summer
So my parents call, and they say "Hey, we'd like to take Elayna on this awesome trip to Israel this summer."

...

Keep in mind that I've never been out of the country. Hell, they don't take me anywhere, and never have. But. Israel. Okay. I'm not going to say no, because it's a wonderful opportunity for Elayna, but dude.

So we switched her from first to second session of Explo so she could go to Israel. Which actually works in her favor, as her first-choice courses were available in second session (she had her second-choice classes in first session). So she gets a trip to Israel, then Criminal Psychology and Forensic Science.

Link Soup
* Happy book release day to antonstrout (Dead Matter) and mouseferatu (The Conqueror's Shadow)!
* The Fug Girls are right. She does look like a superhero.
* ... I want oatmeal brulee.

Plans
I am spending the day between the bed and the bathroom. Until Elayna gets home and I have to take her for her passport. Will try to write, if the body allows.

re: kythryne - I know someone who would be *awesome* at this! She's doing it for her husband's handyman business - etlanin. I know her online and in person.

Could you put me in touch? I get "no such user" when clicking your link. Thanks!
23rd-Feb-2010 03:50 pm (UTC)
Yes, I will - I've already sent her an email this morning and am waiting to hear back from her.
23rd-Feb-2010 03:58 pm (UTC)
Awesome, thanks!

(Also, hi! I don't think we've met in person yet, but we seem to have a lot of overlap in our friends circles.)

*grin* Hi! :) And no, we haven't (though, I'm pretty sure that's a yet, since I just moved 1.5 miles from shadesong)

Also...I've been admiring your jewelry from afar for a while...just waiting for funding.

"Hell, they don't take me anywhere, and never have."

Don't take it personally. It's a grandparent thing.

But. Israel. Okay. I'm not going to say no, because it's a wonderful opportunity for Elayna, but dude.

Just a question, and then I sit on my hands: is the "but dude" because you want to go, or because you're conflicted about her going that far away? *curious*

I really hope you feel better soon!
23rd-Feb-2010 04:21 pm (UTC)
The "but dude" is because they neglected the hell out of me, but her? Trips to foreign countries.
23rd-Feb-2010 02:13 pm (UTC)
Get started on her passport NOW! There may not be any hangups, but if there are, you'd rather have the time now to sort them out than be up against a deadline.

here for all the links you need to start the process. It's easy really, and doesn't cost that much. http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html

good luck!

Yep. *points to "plans" where it says that's happening today*

Sorry 'bout that!

Re: Sidibe: From everything I've read about her, she kinda *is* a superhero. I love LOVE her quote about "People think I got this role and now I'm totally awesome, when really I was always awesome and then I got this role." LOVE.

Whoa, if that lady was a superhero...she'd be the sort that even Galactus wouldn't mess with! She looks like she could probably punt him into the Andromindan galaxy!

And yeah, some designer needs to start doing work for non-stick-insect shaped people.

Oh, man. I haven't got any quinoa in the house, but I think I'll make my standard oatmeal a little richer (butter and milk in at the microwave stage, instead of after, and maybe a dash of vanilla) and try brulee-ing the top.

I'm gonna try this RIGHT NOW.

Isreal!! One of the places on my list of things do to before I die. Lucky, lucky Elayna. And just think - one of these days you can take Elayna's kids all over the world *grin*
23rd-Feb-2010 08:18 pm (UTC)
Feel better.
Voted.
Hope that Elayna's summer kicks ass.
Agrees with Fug Girls.
Love oatmeal, love fancy desserts. Perfect combo!

Coworkers and I were just discussing over lunch today how different parents were when they were acting as grandparents. When my dad was first driving, Grampy would charge him a nickel a mile (or somesuch)to use the car and would actually check the odometer. Me? He lent me his car when I was, oh, barely 20. Before letting me cruise around on my own, he had me drive with him, even instructed me to exceed the speed limit so I could "see how the car handled." When my brother borrowed the Lincoln Town Car and had an accident in a snow storm, Grampy was secretly amused at the adventure. Dad's still a bit jealous.
